We were a very lucky family. As Kids, we spent most of our waking hours with our parents. Having such a talented father, we enjoyed many evenings listening to him sing and play his guitar in a way that most in Nashville Stars would envy and could not ever compare. But there was also an extraordinary part to our lives, which was enhanced by my dad’s siblings. Uncle Jack, Uncle Bob, Aunt Marie, Uncle Fred and Uncle Joe. Unfortunately for us kids we never were able to meet our Aunt Virginia. She passed many years before we were born.
It was, as we were youngsters growing up in Bonners Ferry that we were blessed with many family gatherings that included this whole bunch. Along with my fathers siblings were my wonderful Aunt’s, Uncles and Cousins. It is because of them we inherited an incredible sense of family values that carry on in each one of us touched by these individuals.
To honor my Uncle Fred in his recent passing. This was a man that I have extreme admiration. He was a gentle soul who cared deeply for his family and friends with a passion not many know how to possess. I have so many fond memories that it would take an eternity to express them all. My Uncle Fred made it easy for me to be myself around him. His sense of humor was invigorating. He brought out the best in all people he would come in contact. This was a man who would strike up a conversation with a total stranger and before you knew it they were instant friends. Not many people have such a gift. He had a positive influence on so many lives.
Uncle Fred, my Dad and my Uncles would adorn us with their incredible musical talents anytime they were together (whether it be singing or with musical instruments). It might be hard for anyone who didn’t have that growing up to know how very special it was for us kids to watch and listen with such passion and delight. I feel so incredibly blessed to have grown up having my Uncle Fred in my life. For everything he stood for, he will live on in our hearts forever. Thank you Uncle Fred for being one of my Favorite Super Heros.
