Helen Evenson Obituary

EVENSON, Helen M. (Hunter)

Passed away May 2, 2011. Born February 29, 1932 in Missoula, Montana, to Robert "Earl" and Eva Hunter. Helen enjoyed telling people that with her leap year birthday she was only 19. She graduated from Missoula County High School in 1951 and then attended the University of Montana. Helen left Missoula and moved to Detroit to work for Northwest Airlines. She then transferred to Spokane where she met Arden Evenson on a blind date; they married in 1956. In addition to raising her family, Helen began working at See's Candies in 1972 and worked there until her retirement.
Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed playing any game, especially cards. She loved to watch college sports, especially basketball. She enjoyed being on the sidelines or in the audience at her children's and grandchildren's many sporting events, concerts and performances. But most of all, Helen enjoyed spending time at their Montana river cabin with friends and family.
Helen survived two bouts of cancer, but succumbed unexpectedly to a brain hemorrhage. Family and friends surrounded her at the time of her passing.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents Robert Earl and Eva Hunter and brother Robert Hunter. She is survived by her brother, Howard Hunter (Mary Carol); her husband of 56 years, Arden Evenson; and their three children, Lori Alexander (Harold), Gunnar Evenson (Donna), Paul Evenson (Marian); her nine grandchildren, Ian, Colin (Channel), Ross, Katherine, and Genevieve Alexander, Nels and Hannah Evenson, and Wyatt and Josephine Evenson as well as numerous nieces and nephews and very dear friends.
A celebration of Helen's life will be held Friday, May 13 at 1:00 pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 North Indian Trail Road, Spokane, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

We will miss her bright, sparkling eyes on Feb. 29 every year. We teased her for being a teenager while we weren't. We will miss her most when we quilt. We loved coming out at Christmas time to see how she managed to put up her many houses she collected. We will just plain miss her.
Our prayers of strength and healing to you, Arden, and your family.
