Lena "Lee" BARBER

BARBER, Lena (Grashio) "Lee" (Age 99) Was born in Spokane, WA on Nov. 25, 1913 to Tony and Mary (Leonetti) Grashio and peacefully passed away on June 23, 2013. Lee grew up near Gonzaga with her parents and six siblings. A graduate of Holy Names Academy, she worked at The State Theater, Fox Theater and Washington Trust Bank in Spokane. She moved to Beverly Hills for a short while, but returned to her hometown, where she met her lifelong love, Jim Barber. Jim and Lee wed on November 13, 1948 in Sparks, NV. In 1951, their daughter, Becky, was born. As a parishioner at St. Augustine Catholic Church for over 50 years, Lee was committed to, and proud of, her faith. An enthusiastic sports fan, she could be found cheering in front of the TV during all Redskin games. Additionally, she had a love for golf and the friends she made while playing the sport. She and Jim spent their winters in Palm Desert, CA where they were members at Chaparall G&CC. In Spokane, they were also members at Hayden Lake and Manito. Her biggest thrill was a hole-in-one at Avondale. Her friends and family were her passion and delight. She will be remembered for her wit, generosity, loyalty, caring spirit and unconditional love. Lee is survived by her daughter, Becky Hoal, son-in-law, Earl Hoal, and grand-daughter, Gina Hoal. She also leaves behind numerous adored nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998, and also her parents, her sisters Grace, Laura, Clara, Rose, Mary-Ellen, and brother Sam. Rosary will be Thursday, June 27, at 7pm at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 428 West 19th Avenue, on Friday, June 28th at 10am. Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Special thanks to The Hospice House for their care and support.
