We are sorry to tell you that Robert passed away after a long and well fought battle with cancer. Robert was born in Clarkston, WA on 12/17/43. His family was in the grocery and ranching business. He enjoyed his younger school days on a large cattle ranch where he rode his horse to the one room school house on their property. These years as a rancher's kid had a life long impact on his work ethic and his values. He attended the U of I where he received a bachelor's degree and claimed that besides mining he studied "skiing and all things outdoors." For most of his adult life he was a commercial contractor and built many large commercial properties in the Pacific Northwest. Robert was a pilot, ski instructor, fisherman, avid hunter and horseman. His affiliations included the Mt. Spokane Ski Patrol, volunteering at Crosswalk and most recently he served as President of the Inland Empire Backcountry Horseman. His middle name was "how can I help you" and the list of projects and assistance he shared with whoever asked, is long and impressive.
He is survived by his son Ryan J. Spickard of Seattle, WA; brother Steve J. Spickard of Spokane, WA; step-daughter Mickenlee Fitzner and granddaughter Kylee Fitzner of Spokane, WA; Aunt Thaes Spickard; Niece Janice McKelvy, cousins Margaret and Charles McKelvy of New York; cousins Mike and Billy Provost of Clarkston, WA and partner Mary C. Butler of Spokane. He also leaves a huge and appreciative extended family including, numerous nieces and nephews, best pals and hunting buddies.
A Memorial and Celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, February 5th at 1 PM at the Windsor Grange at 4417 S. Assembly Rd. Please bring a picture of Bob if you have it for the memory board. We'll return your photos if you attach your address. You can also post pics and memories to his Facebook page.
Memorial gifts can be made to the Inland Empire Backcountry Horseman (IEBH) a 501C3, at POB 30891, Spokane, WA 99223. They are going to continue a wilderness area project that Bob was most passionate about.
