Roy Burns Obituary


BURNS,
Roy Leonard

Peacefully passed away on March 26, 2011. Born November 9, 1933 to Walter and Erna Burns, Roy spent his childhood in Spokane graduating from Lewis and Clark High School. He joined the Naval Reserve and served as a medical corpsman. His unit was activated for the Korean War. In 1954, Roy met and married the love of his life, Joan. He attended Gonzaga University and Eastern Washington University earning a BA in Biology and Education. He taught science at Fairchild Air Force base for two years before beginning his career in the FBI. For the next 23 years, Roy was a special agent with the FBI living in many different places across the United States. After his retirement from the FBI, Roy began working for the Boeing Company in charge of executive security. After leaving Boeing, Roy began working as a private investigator. Roy is remembered for the tremendous love he had for his family, his friends and his church. He was very active at St. John Vianney Church as a Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council member and Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He and Joan loved to travel visiting new places together. Roy is survived by his wife of 56 years Joan, son Terry Burns and wife Mary of Sammamish WA, daughter Michelle Taylor and husband John of Spokane WA, brothers Jack Burns of Deer Park WA and Gary Burns of Colfax WA, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Vigil and Rosary service will be held Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 503 N. Walnut Rd., Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Please sign Roy's online guestbook at www.hennesseyfuneral homes.com. To Mrs. Burns, Terry, Michelle and your families. Please accept my sincere condolence in your sudden loss. I've thought about your family often over the last few weeks, especially today. Mr. Burns left a wonderful legacy in his family.
