There was no mention of what a great athlete Margaret was. I coached her in fast pitch softball in the 70s and she was the best pitcher I ever worked with. She helped the East End Saints win two state titles and reach the finals of the consolation bracket of the National Fastpitch 18 and under tournament in 1977. This was when womens' sports were just beginning to be noticed. I consider her a pioneer in that field. She was a hard-working, dedicated, and superior athlete who struck out many male athletes who tried to face her. I've coached many female athletes over my career and I consider Margie one of the best, not just because of her ability, but also because of her heart and work ethic. She was, how shall I say, a darned good person. I am just plain "bummed" today over her loss. My condolences to the family. We lost a good one, but I know she's in the happy place. No one deserves it more.
