GRANELL, Dr. Anthony "Tony"

66, of Lutz, passed away May 15, 2015. Tony was a third-generation Tampa native and attended Sacred Heart Academy and Jesuit and Hillsborough High Schools. He graduated in psychology from the University of Florida and practiced in that field for a number of years before going to medical school at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Upon graduation and completion of his residency, he began his career in family practice and was the founder of St. Michael's Medical Center, later renamed Health Point Medical Group of Tampa. After many years of dedicated service to the Tampa community, Tony briefly attempted retirement. Quickly realizing that was not for him, he recently opened Tampa Healthy Aging where he continued his loving care of, and for, his patients until the day before his sudden and unexpected passing. Tony sincerely loved his patients and they loved him in return, many becoming lifelong friends. His passions in life were his deep love and respect for his wonderful parents and his love for his family, his wife and all of his extended family. He was extremely generous and fully gave of his expertise and friendship to all those around him. Tony was a devoted, lifelong Gator fan and reveled in anything orange and blue. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Granell. Survivors include his wife, Vicki Granell; mother, Frances Granell; daughter, Allyson Granell; brothers, Gary and Jamie (Mary Frances) Granell; stepsons, Christopher, Marshall and Spencer Nuckolls and granddaughter, Ava Schroeder. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 PM and a celebration of life will be held at 7 PM on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Boza & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 N. Armenia Ave., Tampa, FL. As a physician and counselor, Dr. Granell donated thousands of volunteer hours to DACCO, a cause he felt very strongly about. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to DACCO,4422 E. Columbus Drive, Tampa, FL 33605 in his memory.
