Marjorie Cochran Obituary

COCHRAN, Marjorie Moore Chunn passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011. She was born Oct. 8, 1915, in Agricola, GA, to Richard Lynn (R.L.) and Annie May Wright Moore. Her sister was Sarah Moore Ramsey. The family resided in Tampa from 1918 on. Margy attended Gorrie School, Wilson Jr. High, Plant High School, Duke University, and graduated from Florida State College for Women with a degree in social studies. She married Dr. C. Frank Chunn in 1936. During WWII she taught geography and history at Wilson Jr. High. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and an exceptional wife and mother. She was widowed in 1970 and later married Mr. Paul D. Cochran. Her final years were happy and comfortable in the friendships and loving care at Canterbury Tower. Margy was a member of Hyde Park United Methodist Church and a founding member of Palma Ceia United Methodist Church; the Junior League of Tampa, Chi Omega Fraternity, Hillsboro County Medical Auxiliary, Hillsboro County Art Association, and Director of both the YWCA and the Hillsboro County Crime Commission during her years of public service. Her biggest job was supporting and enhancing the lives of her husband and children. Her appreciation of life, her lively curiosity, and zeal for learning took her all over the world to experience cultures, landscapes, and people. There was never a dull conversation or period of time in her life. She truly lived each day to the fullest. She leaves behind her three loving children: daughter, Cloe Chunn and husband, Dr. David Thanhauser of Swanville, ME; son, Frank Chunn, Jr., and wife, Carolyn of Tampa; daughter, Celeste Colcord and husband, Kevin of Davidson, NC; stepdaughter, Nancy Cochran Berry and husband, Ted of Clearwater Beach; her grandchildren: Ian M. Catlett, Skye Catlett, Charles Chunn III and wife, Kristine, Brian Chunn, Harrison Colcord, Kevin Francis Colcord, Madison Colcord, Paul E. Berry and wife, Caren; great-grandchildren, Camryn Berry and Charles Francis Chunn IV; niece, Carol Turpin; nephews, Maynard Ramsey III and Richard Ramsey; and her beloved friend, Ethel M. Howard. A memorial service and celebration of Margy's life will be held at Hyde Park United Methodist Church at 1 pm, Tuesday, May 24, 2011.
