Philip Steele Obituary

STEELE, Philip S. 66, of North Redington Beach, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011. Born in Altoona, PA. He attended U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, completed United Fruit Company's cadet program and began his career as a merchant marine. He sailed for 40 years (Chief Engineer 34). SAMs accredited marine surveyor, and member SAR, SAL, Hawaii Yacht Club, SNAME, ABYC, Tampa Bay Mariners, and other marine associations. He became an accredited SIRE inspector in 2010, continuing to work on his beloved ships. Survived by his mother Barbara; wife Kathleen; son Frank; daughter Alix; 2 grandchildren, and brothers Jon, Jim, and Lee and families. Celebration of Life at American Legion, 600 American Legion Drive, Madeira Beach 4 pm Friday, Oct. 7. Donations, in lieu of flowers to Frank Robert Steele UTMA/FL.
