Dr. Philip A. Miolene ("Phil"), 79, died on July 25, 2013, at the New York Presbyterian University Hospital. Born in New Haven, Connecticut on September 29, 1933 to John and Nancy Miolene, Phil was predeceased by his sister, Louise Patti, and brother, John Miolene. Phil married Regina Miolene in 1957, his wife of 55 years. Phil obtained a Master of Arts from Yale University in 1956, a Doctorate in Dental Science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1960, and a graduate degree in Orthodontics from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1967. He served as a Captain in the United States Army in Okinawa, Japan from 1960-63. Phil resided in Stamford, CT for the last 46 years, maintaining an active orthodontics practice there until the time of his death. Phil has been a member of the Connecticut State Dental Association since 1965 and served as President of the Stamford Dental Society from 1974-76. He was involved with The Sterling Farms Theatre, acting and singing in numerous dramas and musicals. He was a sports enthusiast, and played golf, tennis, and paddle tennis. He was an avid skier and enjoyed boating and gardening. He traveled the world with his wife and summered at his home on the Rhode Island shore.
Phil was a kind, generous, and witty man, with a tremendous sense of humor that touched the lives of many people. Quick with a joke to make anybody he met laugh or smile, Phil was above all else a man dedicated to his family, friends, patients, and the community and was always ready to offer a helping hand. Phil embodied an optimistic, energetic spirit and had a hard-driving work ethic. The son of an auto-mechanic, Phil started work at the age of 9 shining shoes, and worked in numerous jobs ranging from construction to waiting tables to make it through undergraduate and graduate school. Phil never stopped providing for his family and friends, treating three generations of orthodontics patients. Phil touched countless lives with his instinctual kindness, his rare gift of lifting spirits with generosity and wit, and an amazing ability to make someone laugh under any circumstance.
Phil is survived by his wife Regina, his son Philip J. Miolene and his wife Marlena, son Paul Miolene and his wife Leanne, son John Miolene, daughter Elizabeth Gallagher and her husband Dennis, and his grandchildren Elissa, Claire, and Cassie Miolene, and Kylie, Brian, and Reagin Gallagher. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home 2900 Summer Street in Stamford on Monday July 29 from 5-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday July 30 at 11am at St. Maurice Church 258 Glenbrook Rd in Stamford. Burial will be private.
