ALAN CLARKE FULLER of New Canaan, known to friends and family as Pete, died at the age of 83 after a brief illness, on Friday, August 20 at Stamford Hospital. Mr. Fuller was born in Springfield, Mass. in 1927. He was the only child of Roscoe Hodges Fuller and Barbara Ellis Trevor Fuller. Mr. Fuller married the former Ann Badger of Portsmouth, N.H. in 1955. He is survived by his wife, his son, Jonathan Ellis Fuller and daughter-in-law, Kyoko Ise Fuller of Omaha, Neb., his daughter, Marianne Mansfield Fuller Buchanan and son-in-law, William Barclay Buchanan Jr., of New Canaan, and his son, Samuel Badger Fuller of Darien. His grandchildren are Rebecca Ise Fuller, Benjamin Badger Fuller, William Barclay Buchanan III, Margaret Mansfield Buchanan, Charlotte Elizabeth Carver Buchanan, Amanda Fitzgerald Fuller, Samuel Badger Fuller III, and Julia Mansfield Fuller. After a childhood spent in Massachusetts and Iowa, Mr. Fuller graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, and was trained as a radio operator before being mustered out at the conclusion of World War II. He then transferred to the U.S. Army Officer's Candidate School before receiving as appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1946. Upon graduation in 1950, Lieutenant Fuller entered service in the United States Air Force where he served in guided missile development at Cape Canaveral, Fla. Lieutenant Fuller resigned his commission in 1953 and after working for General Electric, matriculated to Harvard Business School, where he earned a MBA degree in 1956. He subsequently joined McKinsey & Company, where he was employed as a management consultant until 1964, when he joined IBM. After retiring from IBM in 1989, he earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science at Pace University in 1994. Mr. Fuller was an active member of the United States Power Squadrons from 1970 until his death, serving as District Commander and Rear Commander of the national organization. A faithful parishioner at Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in New Canaan for 52 years, he served at various times as Vestry Member, Calling Committee member, Chairman of Stewardship, a Minister of Communion, a lay reader, and a member of the choir for forty years. On the diocesan level, he served on the Executive Counsel of the Diocesan of Connecticut and was a delegate to the Diocesan Convention. In addition, Mr. Fuller played bridge, participated in the "Salty Old Boaters" (SOBs) Club and two computer clubs, and was one of the webmasters of the town of New Canaan's website. He was particularly proud of his Ham radio Operator's license, "KIMRN," which he earned as a boy. A funeral will be held at St. Mark's Church, New Canaan at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 27th.
