Don served as a member of the US Army Air Corps during World War II where he was stationed in Nashville, TN. He returned to Stamford with his wife, Virginia and their baby Donna, following his discharge. Most that knew Don were aware that he was a pioneer in the Broadcasting Industry working with personalities that ranged from Jackie Gleason to the stars of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. He was a local broadcast celebrity in Stamford at radio station WSTC AM and WYRS FM. Don was a respected and most read columnist for The Stamford Advocate until the time of his death. Back in the 70's when I was fresh out of college, Don gave me my initial break into commercial radio at WSTC. Who was to know I would be there 10 years.
He had a great sense of humor, was a great communicator and a mentor of mine.
Many thanks Don for everything.
My sincere condolences to Don's family.
Stamford has lost an icon.
He will be missed.

I always read with pleasure Don's pieces in The Advocate and found them a great comfort and inspiration as well as a source of information; I regret that I never was able to personally thank him for the kind references he made to the Rimland family businesses in Stamford, but wherever he is now I am sure that he knows I am grateful, and maybe he is even sharing a few laughs with my father....he was a truly great citizen not only of our city but of our country and of the world........Don's service on the 27th will be my birthday, I will not be able to be there personally but will be there in spirit and will be thinking of you all........Most Sincerely, Lisa Phillip Rimland

Don's unique platform, passion and skill resulted in a fierce advocate for our library. We will miss his strong voice and counsel. I'd like to think he's looking around heaven right now to pull together the State Street Debating Society guys for dinner. Maybe asking Plato to stop by.

Virginia & Family,
We were so sorry to learn of Don's passing. Don was our boss at CT Public TV when we had studios in Stamford and I can say that of all the people that we have worked with he was, by far, the best. Always a gentleman and always up for a good joke. We'll miss hearing all those stories from The Honeymooners. We send our condolences to you and the entire family and hope you realize just how many lives he touched in a wonderful way.

Don was a unique individual - a man of impressive credentials and experience, who never tried to impress you with his many accomplishments. We are both so grateful for the years that we had the pleasure of knowing him and enjoying his friendship. Our hearts go out to you, Virginia, and to all of Don's family and many friends.

To Virginia and all of Don's family -- Gary and I enjoyed any time that we spent with you and Don. We were spellbound by the stories he could tell, the history he had lived, and the sensible perspective he brought to each and every conversation. When we think of Don, our memories are only pleasurable. There are few people who leave a legacy like that in the lives they touch. God bless you all with sweet recollections...

Friends---I was born and grew up in Stamford, and moved away to join the Air Force in the early 1950s. In recent years, I have been able to keep up with the local happenings through the on-line Advocate and especially through Don's columns about Stamford. I have really enjoyed his writings. He will be missed !!!

To Don's family - and especially Jean and Joey - how deeply sorry we are to learn of Don's death. He had such a rich and productive life that influenced so many of us. Even though we've been gone from Stamford for almost thirty years, we still tell Rustici stories. Please know that you are always in our thoughts and prayers.

To Don's Family:
I had the pleasure of Don's company for many years and several of those as colleagues at the Greenwich radio station. In our broadcasting business, Don was one of the very best. We co-hosted concerts at the "Fish" church and he was a delightful guest in our house. God rest his soul.

On a personal note, I will miss Don as he was the only one I could talk to about my Dad. After all, my Dad gave Don his first job at the William H. Jones Drug Stores. My husband and I attended many functions years ago together also. He was a very special person.
