Kelley Bailey Obituary
Age 45 of Pine City, passed away Wednesday evening, May 16, 2012 at Highland Hospital, Rochester following a courageous 2 year battle with cancer.
Kelley was born on December 16, 1966 in Elmira. From an early age she excelled in education, strove to learn and loved sharing with others what she had learned. She graduated from Southside High School in 1984, Elmira College in 1999, and earned her Masters in Literacy. She taught the Second Grade at Pine City Elementary School for 10 years before becoming an Instructional Support Teacher there as well. Passionate about creativity, teaching and love, Kelley's smile warmed your heart and her laughter filled a room.
Surviving is her loving family, husband and best friend of 27 years, Brian Bailey, Pine City. She lived her life for her daughters, Nicole Bailey, Jessica Bailey (fiancée, Nicholas Delaney); Courtney Bailey; and her grandson, Ryan Patrick Drum, all of Pine City; mother, Deanna Jean Holloway (Max) Lathrop, Gillett, PA; father, Jerry Shoemaker, Elmira; siblings, Gary Nichols, Elmira; Donna (Daniel) Donahue, Newfield; Jerry (Beckey) Shoemaker, Homer; Richard (Becky) Lathrop, Gillett, PA; Roger (Ginger) Lathrop, Millerton, PA; Bradd (Eileen) Saltzgiver, Greensburg, PA; She was especially close to her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews.
Also a tremendous part of her life were the many professional friends, colleagues and students she impacted through her years of teaching. Kelley was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Charles and Florence Holloway and her paternal grandparents, Raymond and Audrey Shoemaker.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Sunday, May 20, 2012 between the hours of 2-7 p.m. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Monday at 11;30 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one's choice in Kelley's memory.
Thank you to the staff of Highland Hospital, East Five for the wonderful care you provided Kelley and her family. "You are Angels".

Kelley was one of the most dedicated and caring teachers I have ever known. The students who sat in her classroom over the years are truly blessed. I think Kelley was one of the first people I befriended as a new freshman at Southside High School. She and I pulled each other through freshman English. We also had mutual friends and since she started with the SHS Class of 1985, I made sure she knew about our class reunions! You will be missed my dear friend, and you left us all with great memories of your talents and friendship. You could not have chosen a better picture to memoralize Kelley. That will always be how we remember her. Kelley's beautiful face always expressed happiness, optimism, and faith. She was one who could talk the talk and walk the walk in every aspect of her life. We praise God for our memories of Kelley and for the privilege of raising our families together at Pine City Baptist Church. All of the hours of fellowship putting together children's plays, choirs, youth groups, and the list goes on. Many people come and go in our lives, but there are those special few who will stick in our hearts and minds for a lifetime - Kelley is certainly one of them in our hearts. A life cut short - for a reason we will never know here on earth - only God has the key to unlock that reason. Everyone who knew Kelley has had an amazing blessing in their lives. We are always here for you and your family. God bless you as you trudge through your grief. Lean on the Lord for your strength as He will not forsake you in your time of need.

I was so shocked to hear about Kelley. We worked together at Fay's in Elmira and were good friends at the time and I'm sorry we didn't keep in touch. We shared a lot of laughs (and tears) together. I see Kelley's picture and I remember all the laughter we shared and all the long talks after the school day was over. She was first and foremost a true friend, but also a wonderful colleague. The world has lost a beautiful woman, wife, and mother and Elmira has lost one of the best teachers it's had on its staff.
