R. L. "Les" Armstrong Raymond Lester "Les" Armstong, Jr., 70 of Catlett, VA died on Oct. 31, 2010 at the INOVA Fairfax Hospital.

He was born March 15, 1940 at Midland, VA a son of the late Raymond Lester Armstrong, Sr. and Nellie Crittenden Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lynn M. Armstrong; his brother- William H. Armstrong, Sr. and two sisters- Leona Owens and Alice Marie Carci.

Les served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. His decorations and medals included the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Device, Air Medal 5th Award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

After his military service, he owned and operated AM Food Marts which were gas and convenience stores in the Birmingham, AL area until he sold the business. He moved back to Fauquier County in 2006. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife- Sue James Armstrong; three children- Teri Booth, McKinney, TX, Trace Armstrong, Gainesville, FL and John Armstrong, Kansas City, MO; a stepdaughter- Jaclyn James, Nashville, TN; a sister- Elizabeth Thorpe, Catlett, VA and five grandchildren- Jared, Jackson and Matthew Armstrong and Scott and Lauren Booth.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Sunday, Nov. 7 at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave., Warrenton, VA. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Nov. 8 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Midland. Interment at the Midland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Building Fund, 12714 Elk Run Road, Midland, VA 22728.
