Rodger was born Oct. 5, 1937, in Bishop, W.V., to Virgil and Elsie (Whisman) Blevins. Rodger received his early education in Tazewell, WV. The bulk of Rodger's childhood was spent in a boy's home. During his youth, Rodger demonstrated natural horse training skills. He enjoyed training Tennessee walking horses and also enjoyed racing horses.
At the age of 17, Rodger enlisted in the United States Navy. Throughout his life, Rodger always considered himself a true Navy Man above all else. In his 20 years of service to his country, Rodger served on the U.S.S. Oriskany, the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk, and the U.S.S. Hancock.
He married Marie Worth in May of 1958 in Granite Falls, Wash. Unto this union three children were born.
Upon his retirement from the Navy, Rodger began a new career in management with the Pay N Pak Corporation, which led him to Scottsbluff. He managed the Scottsbluff Pay N Pak store for a number of years until its closure.
After his full retirement Rodger enjoyed fishing, boating, and golf. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved cats. Our Dad was a generous man who loved his children and grandchildren. We will miss him greatly but find comfort knowing he is with his Lord and his suffering has ended.
Rodger is survived by his children; Robert Blevins of Lakewood, Colo., Scott and wife Deb Blevins of Apple Valley, Calif., and Shelly Blevins Brass of Gering; brothers, Carroll Cook of Florida and Jerry Cook of Georgia; grandchildren, Brad Pierce and Marlie Kniss of Scottsbluff, Danielle Kniss of Gering, Alicia and Alex Pacheco of Apple Valley, Calif., and numerous great-grandchildren.
