Angela Toma Obituary

Angela Johanna "Ann" (Puglisi) Toma passed away peacefully on July 2, 2014.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited for visiting on Saturday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave., Roseland, N.J. 07068. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.farmerfuneral.com.
A woman of many strengths and talents, Ann had great humor and a generous heart. She was a devoted wife, loving sister, dear aunt and thoughtful friend.
Surviving is her adoring husband, Vincent, with whom she shared 65 beautiful years of marriage. Early in her life, the Toma and Puglisi families lived in the same building in Newark, N.J. Although Ann and Vincent had known each other for years, they fell in love following Vincent's return from World War II. She and Vincent lived in South Orange, N.J.; Roseland; Chatham, N.J., and Livingston, N.J.
With her keen intelligence and strong work ethic, Ann climbed the ranks of the Prudential Insurance Company in both Newark and Roseland. She retired as a director of the comptroller's department in the mid-1980s, after 40 years of service. She was highly regarded as a leader, serving as a role model and mentor for many young women and men.
Ann was also known for her sense of style in fashion, art, and interior design. She was a fairy godmother to her extended family and their children. She showered them with her generosity, attention, and sage advice. She hosted many joyous Puglisi family gatherings.
In retirement, she remained a voracious reader, a kind neighbor, and civic volunteer.
Ann was the daughter of the late Maria Giovanna and Joseph Puglisi. In addition to her husband, Vincent, Ann is survived by her brother, Joseph Puglisi and his wife, Anita, of Little Egg Harbor, N.J.; her brother, Robert Puglisi and his wife, Fran, of Manchester, N.J., and her sister, Dolores Deegan of Chester, N.J. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, David Toma and his wife, Patricia, of Clark, N.J. She will be especially missed by her niece, Sharon Deegan Williams, husband Michael, and children, Connor, Aidan, and Olivia.
She was predeceased by her brothers, John, Vincent, Albert, Frank, Joey, and Carl, as well as her sisters, Josephine and Rose.
She will be greatly missed by all of her nieces and nephews who were blessed by her thoughtful ways, helpful words, and hearty laugh.
Donations in Ann's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

July 4, 2014

Our sincere condolences to both the Toma and Puglisi families on the passing of our dear colleague, friend and mentor. Both my wife Donna and I worked with Ann for many years at Prudential. She was a role model for so many young women who learned from her that it was ability and hard work, not gender, that would determine what you could become. We will miss her warm and engaging smile, her determination and her cheerful greetings whenever we met over the years. My her memory be a blessing for her friends and family. Rest in peace dear lady.
