DR. ROBERT HUBSMITH

Dr. Robert J. Hubsmith Physician, loving husband, father, and grandfather, 84 Dr. Robert J. Hubsmith, 84, of Kinnelon, N.J., passed away on Dec. 18, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Monday, Dec. 22, at the Community Church of Mountain Lakes, 48 Briarcliff Rd., Mountain Lakes, N.J. 07046. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson, N.J. Visiting hours were held yesterday at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, 781 Newark Pompton Tpke., Pompton Plains, N.J. Born and raised in Passaic, N.J., Dr. Hubsmith graduated as salutatorian from Passaic High School in 1948. He attended Cornell University, where he earned his B.S. in 1952 and his M.D. in 1956, and then completed his internship and residency at St. Luke's Hospital in New York City. He married Lois Landrie in 1957 and shortly after joined the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Leyte as part of the medical department from 1958 to 1960. In 1965, Robert and Lois settled in Kinnelon and Robert established his private practice, a practice he operated for over 30 years. During this time, Robert also worked in the emergency room at Chilton Memorial Hospital, where he served several terms as president, and at the emergency room and trauma center at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Robert also served as team doctor for the Kinnelon Colts and fire surgeon for the Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Department. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to watch the New York sports teams and solve The New York Times crossword puzzles. Robert is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lois; his sons, Robert Jr. and wife, Mary Ellen Meyer, and Edward; daughter, Diane Nash and husband, Tim, and his grandchildren, Rebecca and Jacob Nash. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory to the Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Department, American Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by his family.
