Hello Faye,
You won't know me but Warren was my mother's (Florence Weinreich DeBasio) first cousin and she always spoke so fondly and proudly of him. (Mother died in 2009 at the age of 97.) I saw Warren on a couple of occasions when I was a child at St. Paul's Church in Oakville.
As I read his obituary I was awed by the story of his life, not only by his military accomplishments, but even more by the kindness he showed with his gifts of vegetables he had grown to the soup kitchen and Wounded Warriors.
Please know that you have my sympathy and prayers. Marie DeBasio Andel

Pappy was such a sweetheart -- our family has many fond memories of him. I know he will be greatly missed by Faye, her family and all those who knew him. God Bless!!

To say that Pappy was private and humble is very true but maybe even an understatement. While I had not seen him in a few years I always remembered him as quiet and kind. I knew a bit about him but honestly had no idea of his military career. I knew he had been in the military, but that is about it. So to have known someone with such a distinguished military career that one would only know as a nice, quiet old guy that had been in WWII which is the way he truly seemed and now knowing all I just read about him makes you really know just how private and humble he was.
Rest in peace Pappy.
