Allie Houghton Obituary
STROUP SOUTHERLAND
Allie Sue Stroup Southerland Houghton was born February 5, 1915 to the late David Augustus Stroup and Hallie Kiser Stroup in Bessemer City, NC. She graduated from Tryon High School Bessemer City NC and attended nurses training at Crowell Hospital Lincolnton, NC. Upon graduation she began her nursing career at Babies Hospital Wilmington NC with the late Dr. J. Buren Sidbury where she remained until her retirement in 1975.
She is survived by her son Freddy Southerland (Pam), grandson David F. Southerland Jr. (Wendy), granddaughter Angelita Martin (Danny) and great grandson Alexander Martin.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Russell Stroup (Pauline), Fred Stroup (Mavin) and sisters Louise Ballew (Charlie) and her first husband Truman Southerland and step-son Jimmy Southerland and also her second husband Carl Houghton.
A funeral service will be held 11am Saturday August 18, 2012 at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church by Rev. Jim Glasgow. Burial will follow in Rogers Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7pm until 8pm Friday August 17, 2012 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church 800 Piner Rd Wilmington NC 28409 or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice 1414 Physicians Dr Wilmington NC 28401.

Freddy and Family,
So very sorry to hear about the passing of your Mother...I will never forget all the great times I had with her when I was young, especially all the great Halloween treats she prepared for the kids on our road. She will surely be missed by all. May God Bless you and your family.
