RONALD DAVID "RON" HEARN

RONALD HEARN Obituary

RONALD DAVID HEARN "RON"

Ronald David Hearn "Ron", died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on September 27, 2012, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter following a brief illness. Ron was predeceased by his parents, James E. Hearn, Jr. and Delfina Bueso Hearn.

Ron was born September 27, 1946, in Wilmington, NC. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served as an Altar Boy for several years. He attended New Hanover County Schools and graduated from New Hanover High School in 1964. He went on to graduate from Wilmington College (UNC-W) in 1968 with a B.S. Degree in Accounting. He began his career with Riegel Paper Company and remained with the company for over thirty years as it became Federal Paper Board and later International Paper Company. Over the years, he assumed various roles and retired as Controller of the Wood Products Division. After retirement, Ron enjoyed his part-time work at Shooter's Choice.

Ron was an avid outdoorsman whose love of the outdoors began as a member of the Boy Scouts. He pursued lifetime interests in hunting, fishing, and shooting sports. He was a member of the Buccaneer Gun Club (Legislative Chairman), a Lifetime Member of the NRA, a NC Lifetime Sportsman and various fishing and hunt clubs. Some of his most treasured memories are of winning many field trials with his Labrador "Duke" and landing his prize winning Marlin in the 1991 Cape Fear Blue Marlin Tournament.

Ron also had a tremendous interest in "The War Between the States" and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He had a keen interest in politics and was a True Patriot.

Ron was greatly loved by his family and friends. He was joyful, smart, kind and incredibly quick witted. He was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain. A lover of beach music, he was a member of the Cape Fear Shag Club and in most recent years enjoyed sharing the dance floor with his "buddies". During his retirement, he also became a member of the Cape Fear Woodcarvers and always enjoyed learning new carving techniques. Ron was also a great fan of UNC Basketball and was known for his very vocal participation while viewing the games. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Ron is survived by his cherished son who was the light of his life, Ronald David Hearn, Jr. of Chapel Hill, NC, brothers James E. Hearn III (Marion), Michael J. Hearn (Joy), sister Maria H. Vereen (Joe), two special nieces, Cheryl Lawley and Meredith Dockery, who loved their "UNC" very much. He is also survived by his wife and friend, Laura Woodard Hearn, loving in-laws, Tommy and Lynn Woodard, Kitty and Randall King, Cindy and Ben Rivenbark, Pat Woodard and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012, at 11:00 am at Wrightsville United Methodist Church. A reception will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or charity of one's choice.

A gentle and kind spirit is in a better place. Lou and I remember him fondly from Wilco and UNCW. He was a wonderful sight to see in the Cape Fear Shag Club, as well. What smooth, dancing feet he had. Thanks for the friendship over the years and the kindnesses you gave to others through your life on earth! You are missed...
Fondly,
Pat and Lou Smith

My brother Ronnie,
Often times I sit alone,
Thinking about days forever gone,
Those that see me,
Might think me lonely.
But if they only knew you,
In the prime of your past,
They'd know it isn't true,
For we've treasures to last.
Tho' we'll weep no silver tears,
For those gone but golden years,
We will as time passes by,
Laugh so as not to cry.
All our love to you Ronnie!

Dear Laura - I was deeply saddened to hear of the demise of Ron. I remember when David was born and how proud he was - bringing the "post delivery" pictures of you and baby to the office. It's seems like yesterday - oh how time flies. Embrace precious memories as you go through this hour of bereavement and God will bring you comfort. You, David and family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Maria and family, My deepest sympathies to you all. I am always sad when I hear that a St. Mary's alum has passed away. I remember many an afternoon where my sister Patty, my friend Terry Thompson, you and I would hang out in your apartment and your brothers would pick on us all like we were their little sister's too. I hope you are able to find comfort in your memories and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
