Adelaide W. Gordon

Gordon, Adelaide W. Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother Age 89 of Saint Paul Born July 26, 1917 in Chicago, Died January 23, 2007 in St. Paul. Preceded in death by her parents Harold Orcutt and Adelaide Moys Washburn; and sister Sally Shafroth. Survived by her husband, Charles Richards "Dick" Gordon. After 26 months with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during WWII, Mr. Gordon married Adelaide on April 26, 1945. At the time of their marriage Mr. Gordon was the public relations sergeant for the Marine Corps Recruiting office in Minneapolis. She is also survived by 3 sons, Charlie (Jocelyn), Buffalo, NY, Bob (Stephanie), Dublin, Ireland, and Dick (Catherine), Boston, MA; 10 grandchildren, Barrett, Jesse, Evan, Sophie, Luke, Maeve, Anna, Gus, Charlie, and Sam; and sister, Jane Washburn Wood, St. Paul. Adelaide was a 1935 graduate of Summit School and a 1939 graduate of Smith College. She taught at the University of Minnesota prior to WWII. During WWII she served with the Red Cross at Fort Ord in California. Adelaide was a member of many boards over the years including the Schubert Club where she started the music therapy program that helped in the rehabilitation of the invalid, WAMSO, YWCA (1958-63), Jamestown, Protestant Home, Family Service, Century Club, St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, Smith College Club (past President), Junior League, Children's Hospital, and Tutor of Hmong. She loved her family immensely; the outdoors; golf, skiing, tennis, and walking; the symphony and theatre; her pet dogs; and her favorite hobby was playing bridge. Adelaide was a regular spectator at all of her children's grade school and high school sporting events.
