Irma Brink Obituary

Published by Star Tribune from Mar. 9 to Mar. 11, 2008.
Brink, Irma Marie Lorentz age 82, of Minneapolis. Irma's unique soul gently departed this earth on Saturday, March 1, in presence of her beloved family, including her husband, daughter, grandchildren and members of her husband's family and friends. Irma was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma Dierks Lorentz; brother, Richard; and sister, Ruth. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Douglas E. Bong. Irma is survived by her husband, David Ryrie Brink; daughter, Jennifer Lorentz Bong; granddaughter, Kysa Lorentz Hall; and grandson, Evan Douglas Hall, all of Minneapolis. She is also survived by her older sister, Betty L. Benedict of Chicago, and by stepdaughters, Anne C. Brink (Andrew) and Mary B. Watts (Jim), both of Mpls, and by stepdaughter, Sarah J. Brink and stepson, David Owen Brink (Bonny), both of California. Irma was also survived by step-grandsons, Corwin Hall (Angie) and Eric Hall (Kristi) and their families and by some special friends, Scott, Peter, Dominika and Isadora. Irma was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Irma had been honors student, actress, model, fashion plate and fashion advisor to many, world traveler, avid theater, ballet and concert goer, and amateur photographer specializing in sunsets. Irma had been a competitive swimmer and a fine swimming teacher. She loved tennis and had a host of friends in the local tennis community, especially the Senior Tennis Players Club, of which she was an early lifetime member. She loved travel with David - Venice, Italy being her favorite of all destinations. Irma was famous for striking up conversations with strangers and was well-known for her often startling "Irma-isms." Irma was born and grew up in Chicago where her father was a very prominent builder. She was an alumna of Knox College and a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She was a member of Phi Beta, honorary fraternity for the performing arts. She remained active in those organizations until her death. Irma had most loving and happy relationships with her husband David, daughter, Jennifer and grandchildren Kysa and Evan and took great pride in all of their accomplishments. She also had very warm relationships with David's family and with sister Betty. She planted trees and loved flowers and birds. She loved time spent in her daughter's beautiful backyard garden and long sojourns and family reunions at David's summer home near Hayward, Wisconsin. The family expresses its gratitude to N.C. Little Memorial Hospice for the gentle care by all their personnel. A memorial celebration of Irma's life will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 15, in the Fireside Lounge, Loring Green East, 1201 Yale Place, Minneapolis. Memorial gifts may be made to the donor's choice of charitable organizations.

Irma was a bright light wherever she went. I'm glad to have had the chance to know her through University of Minnesota events. I smile when I think of her and will keep David and her family in my thoughts and prayers.
