Mary House Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 24 to Oct. 31, 2010.
House, Mary Alice Powell Age 101. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother & great- grandmother. Went peacefully September 16, 2010, with her daughters at her side, to join her loving creator God in Heaven. Preceded in death by her husband of 39 years - Evert J. House and her two brothers, John Powell & Arthur Davo. Survived by children, Evert (Mary) House, Barbara J. Witte, Suzanne M. House; eight grandchildren - Linnea, Shannon, Michelle, Heidi, Christopher, Alayne, Gretchen, Blake, & five great- grandchildren - Evan, Dylan, Celeste, Andrew, Alichia. Mary was born in Waverly, MN October 18, 1908 & attended St Mary's Catholic Church and School. She moved to St Paul, MN in 1924 to work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. It was there that she met her future husband Evert. They were married at the St. Paul Cathedral, January 18, 1936. They lived in the Como Park area of St. Paul for 30 years and raised three children. The family attended St. Andrew's Catholic Church and in 1947 began attending Holy Childhood Catholic Church. In 1968 Mary and Evert became members of the Telephone Pioneers and retired to Sun City Center, Florida. By 1969, they became founding members of a committee that brought the First Catholic Church to Sun City Center, Florida. Evert passed in 1976 and in 1977, Mary moved back to MN to be closer to family. She settled in Plymouth, MN and became a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and the Plymouth Seniors. She joined the Rosary Society at St. Bartholomew's happily volunteering where she was needed. As a volunteer at Interfaith Outreach, she became head of the Transportation Program at the Boardwalk in Wayzata, until she moved to St Therese residence apartments in New Hope at age 90. Her last three years were spent at St. Therese Care Center where she attended mass regularly and participated in a daily exercise program until just a few months before she passed. Our most endearing family memories of Mary are of her dancing and singing in a hot pink bathing suit in Mazatlan at the age of 75, taking her first motorcycle ride at the age of 80, her flouncy square dancing costumes & her party hats. Mary was best known in the community for her unrelenting spirit, loving devotion to God & family, her sharp mind, and her generosity to all in need. The family wishes to express their thanks to Mary's caregivers and the staff at St. Therese Care Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family to be distributed to Mary's caregivers. Thank you to all. A Memorial Mass Service will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010 at 2:30 PM, St Bartholomew Catholic Church, 630 E. Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata, MN 55391.

Christopher House

October 24, 2010

Gram House was one of the foundations that my life has been built upon. She has always been for me a role model as someone who is kind, gentle and generous, yet has always stood up for her princilples. I will always cherish the spirit that she imparted to me and my family. She will always stay in my heart.
