Ken was my first love and I celebrate all that he was to me and our son Michael. He basically excelled at everything he chose to do. As a father as a chess player and golfer, as a military man, as a mentor and a leader of people. He worked to hard because he loved so much. He would scold me for playing to much but I know all that knew him wished they could just bottle up his humor and playfulness. I will always love this wonderful man and mourn the loss of a future with him in it. My heart is broke with sympathy for his family and all that loved him. He was correct when he sang to me "It's all to beautiful" Thank you Kenny~~~

On a sad note, Ken Ford of Minnetonka, Minnesota, formerly of Melbourne, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on July 7, 2011. He would have been 56 the following day.
Ken played in the Melbourne Golf Association for many years, most recently in 2007 with United Space Alliance partner Bobby Briggs.
A Grumman employee in New York during the 1980’s, Ken and I first met when we competed for the Grumman Chess Club Championship and then represented Grumman at the U.S. Amateur Team Chess Championships for many years. Our friendship grew and Ken stood as my best man when I married my wife Patty in 1987.
A short while later Ken moved to Melbourne to begin work on the shuttle program at the cape. When Patty and I transferred to Melbourne in 1991, Ken’s wife Erlinda, helped us, by taking care of our young daughter for several years, since we both worked on the JSTARS program, before she started pre-school. Ken and I continued our friendship competing in chess, golf (with trips to Myrtle Beach), and many poker nights. Ken was always a fair but fiery competitor with a tremendous will to win.
With the end of the shuttle program in sight, Ken left the program in April, to start a new enterprise in Minnesota.
Our deepest sympathy, prayers, and thoughts go out to Ken’s family and friends. He was taken too soon. I will miss you buddy.

How ironic, Kenny, that the shuttle program ended it's final mission about the same time God decided it was your final mission here on earth. I was so looking forward to a visit with you in MN while on our vacation. Well my friend, you missed a great party on your behalf. I only hope and pray that good friends will reconnect in heaven in the same way we connect with family. Life will never be the same without you, Kenny, and I know all of our hearts are broken and missing you. Thanks for the memories, the laughs, the advice, and most of all, your friendship. All of our sympathy goes out to those who knew you best, for we know they are hurting and miss you too. God bless the Ford family in their time of sorrow, and thanks for the great party.

It was with sorrow upon hearing of Ken's passing, so unfortunate at his age and what he was looking forward to accomplishing. We will miss his continuing stories from Minnesota.
