Susan Adams

Adams, Susan of Carmel, CA, died peacefully at the age of 73 on Sunday, March 17th, 2013. A dedicated servant of God; Susan touched count- less lives, young and old, around the world with her kindness, humor and ministry. Susan grew up on a farm in Bird Island, Minnesota as the oldest of four children. She attended Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, majoring in English and Psychology. After graduating, Susan taught English in the US and Pakistan before enrolling at Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. She then became a pastor at various churches, and ultimately spent 10 years at the UCC Church in St. Louis Park, MN. Susan then spent rewarding time as a hospital chaplain at both Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, and Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. In 1989, Susan started working for the UCC Mission Board and moved to Japan, where she taught English at Kobe Jogakuin University and Niigata University. Following retirement in 2004, her passion led her to volunteer with the Asian Rural Institute (ARI) in Japan. Susan returned to the U.S and her home in Carmel in 2007. She was active in the Community Church of the Monterey Peninsula, with the Carmel Foundation, and as a volunteer chaplain at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. She enjoyed her retirement in California close to friends and family. Susan is survived by her children, Shireen Garrison (Joseph), Sarah Garrison, Samantha Stewart (Jerry)and her siblings, Lynn Adams (Gladys) of Alexandria, MN, Frank Adams (Sue) of Lyon, CO, & Ellen Gasner (LeRoy) of Langdon, ND. Remembrance services will be held at the Community Church of the Monterey Peninsula. Any donations should be provided to the Community Church by contacting them at www.ccmp.org.
