Sidney Colbert Obituary

Sidney Colbert Sidney Colbert, age 90, passed away on December 23, 2011. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley Colbert. They had been married 49 years when she passed away in 1996. Sidney is survived by his children, Bill Colbert and his wife Wendy Colbert, Paul Colbert and his wife Cantor Sharon Colbert, Ronni Cohen and her husband Avi Cohen, Cheryl Cook and her husband Robert Cook, M.D.; beloved grandchildren Aron and Michael Cohen, Sara and Andrew Cook, Nathan Colbert, Joy Lopez and her husband, Tony Lopez, Lydia and James Chadwick; and his beautiful great-granddaughters Emily and Ashley Lopez. Sidney was very proud of his service in the army during World War II, where he served in the European, Pacific and North African Theaters. Following the war, he and his father Joseph, opened a chain of hardware stores in the Twin Cities. After his father retired from the business, Sidney relocated his family to Houston in 1966, where he worked as a Real Estate Broker along with Shirley. Sidney was a longtime member of Congregation Brith Shalom until he moved to Austin three years ago. He was known for his kindness and compassion for others and for his "green thumb". Once a member of the Houston Hibiscus Society, he nurtured over one hundred varieties of Hibiscus plants. He was adored by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed! The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Debbie Pierson of Nurses Case Management and to Sidney's wonderful caretaker and friend, Dell Griffin. We also appreciate the excellent care and compassion of the staff at Hospice Austin and Nurse Shelly Baker. The funeral was officiated by Sidney's daughter-in-law, Cantor Sharon Colbert. It took place in Houston at the Kagan-Rudy Chapel at Emanu El Memorial Park on Monday, December 26th. In honor of Sidney's memory, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
