James Davis Obituary

James (Jim) Davis James (Jim) Davis passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 65 at his home in Hutto, Texas on April 16, 2011. Jim was born in Paducah, Texas on August 18, 1945 to Stephen (Buster) and Doris Davis of Chalk, Texas. He was raised on their cotton farm with his siblings, John and Doris Ann, and many cousins. Jim graduated from Paducah High School in 1962. Jim served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1970 where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then went on to study computer science and business management at the University of Texas at Austin and St. Edward's University. He worked as an IT Manager for the Travis County Sheriff's Department where he kept the county in working order by keeping the computers running. Jim married Pam Kaspar of Taylor, Texas on May 25, 1985. Their marriage produced two daughters, Julianna Swed (nee Davis) and Jessica Davis. If you asked Jim what his proudest accomplishment in life was, he would tell you it was "his girls." Jim enjoyed the music of John Prine, woodworking, researching Davis family history, learning about anything that struck his interest, watching sports (particularly any game involving the UT Longhorns) and eating a good meal in the company of his family. He is survived by: his eldest daughter Julianna Swed and son-in-law Phillip Swed; his youngest daughter Jessica Davis; his mother, Doris T. Davis of Edmond, Oklahoma; his brother, John C. Davis of Edmond, Oklahoma; his sister, Doris Ann Lackey of Wichita Falls, Texas; his former wife Pam J. Wareham and husband Kevin Wareham of Hutto, Texas; and his former mother-in-law Dorothy Kaspar of Taylor, Texas. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. Jim is preceded in death by: his father, Buster Davis; his brother-in-law, James Lackey; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Davis; his former father-in-law Joseph Kaspar; his uncle, Roy Thacker; and his aunts, Ruth Berry, Ellen Slaughter, and Morgan Davis. A visitation will be held at Beck Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas on Thursday April 21 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Discovery United Methodist Church in Hutto, Texas on Friday April 22 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Jim to the American Heart Association.
