David Huss Obituary

David Alan Huss David Alan Huss, of Austin, Texas died unexpectedly Monday February 21, 2011 at St. David Hospital in Austin Texas. David was born on November 27, 1947 in Florence, California to Alan and Margaret Huss. David excelled in public debate and music during his formative years. He proudly served his country in the Navy for eight years and was deployed in the Vietnam War, earning the Bronze Star for valor under fire. He worked in the computer industry for many years in a variety of roles that included teacher, account representative and technical writer. He was also a professionally recognized photographer and author. He wrote 42 books on digital photography and digital photo editing. His photography had been displayed by the Library of Congress and has been seen on Nova and the Discovery Channel. David incorporated his love of photography with his love of travel and took every opportunity to visit his favorite photography locations in Europe and the United States. His greatest joy was to photograph his brothers and sisters in Christ from his faith community at Hope Chapel Christian Church. He was a deeply spiritual man who dedicated all his talents to God. David is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, his son Jonathan, and his daughter Grace Smith, and her husband Chad. The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at Hope Chapel with a reception to follow. There will be a visitation Thursday, February 24th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cook-Walden Chapel in Pflugerville. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hope Chapel Church in Austin, Texas.

Dave was a great coworker: mentor, friend, and encouragement in Christ. If the Lord ever needs some technical writing done in heaven, I'm sure He'll call on Dave.

Dave was such a bright and shining star in the constellation of creative Corel software users. His example of good humor and generosity is a lifelong inspiration for us all. It was a privelege to have known him.

Dave lives on in the heart and soles of those of us he helped to learn, laugh, and see the better side of humanity. I am happy to have known him and I will always remember his unique humor and his great character.

I never had the opportunity to meet Dave in person, but I "met" him online via our shared interest in Corel software. I just now heard of his passing, and the world seems a little less bright. My heart goes out to his family.

I knew David only through his articles written about Corel Photo-Paint, but found him to be a great teacher with a refined sense of humor. He will be missed.

Elizabeth & family, my thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of Dave's extended family. I work with Dave a few year back and went on the one of Dave's journey to lose that 100 lbs again. He always made me laugh and had that great smile on his face. We will all miss Dave.

My first experience with David occurred at a Corel conference n 1994 when he took to the stage to teach a class on PHOTO-PAINT. In front of 200 people he started the session with...

"Ladies and gentlemen, you're going to think I'm crazy when I ask you this, but please bow your heads and pray with me...".

David was a faithul man who enjoyed getting into long discussions regarding his passions. He always showed an interest in helping others experience more out of life and was willing to share his gadgets and mastery.

He will be sorely missed.

I had the pleasure of being able to display many of Dave's wonderful pictures on KVUE over the past several years. They were always viewer favorites! Several months ago, I heard someone call my name at a local restaurant. Sure enough, it was Dave. He told some great stories over our long lunch together. I'll always be grateful for that opportunity to get to know the man behind the camera. My thoughts and prayers are with Elizabeth and the rest of Dave's family.

The smile and the laugh... those are the first things that come to mind when I think of Dave. I know he is working with St. Peter right now to get the lighting just right and trying to determine which lens will best capture the beauty of heaven.
