I was 18 working at DPS as a security guard in the late ‘70’s. Jimmy was one of the night crew who worked with us teenagers. We all loved Jimmy and respected his work ethic and character. He, in turn, (and all his crew) treated us with far more respect and gave us more fellowship and kindness than all the other adults working with us. We were then and I remain now astounded that Jimmy and the others worked two full-time jobs to provide for their families. I know the sacrifices both Jimmy and his family endured for the sake of their financial benefit. Jimmy taught me, in those formative years, about hard work, respect for others, and about inner strength in hard times. I listened, watched and learned from Jimmy and I now share in your grief at his passing. In Jesus’ words: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
