Charles Gentry Obituary

Charles Gentry Charles Gentry was born in Rockmart, Georgia on May 26, 1958 and died unexpectedly in Austin on January 20, 2012. He is survived by his mother Betty Jo Gentry of Rockmart, brother Alvin, sister-in-law Lynn, nieces Michelle Hendrix and Mandy Gable, four great nephews Braden and Gavin Hendrix and Logan and Carson Gable, and his aunt Shirley Bearden. Charles also leaves heartbroken hundreds of friends, not only in Austin and Georgia but across the globe. His light was bright. All who know Charles remember his smile and laughter. He had an ability to make any situation better with his warm presence and bottomless wellspring of good humor and hugs. Charles was involved with a number of causes, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Trees for Pease, AIDS Services of Austin and most notably his beloved ZACH Theatre, where he served on the board of directors and was an outspoken ambassador for the theatre and its ongoing capital campaign. A special remembrance ceremony celebrating Charles life will be held at ZACH for all his friends on February 25th at 11:00 a.m. Charles request was that in lieu of flowers donations be made to ZACH. It has been said that if a person had enough true friends to fill the fingers of one hand, he would be truly blessed. Charles would need at least ten pairs of hands to fulfill this goal - and would have run out of room. He will be missed.

Charles loved his Pilates & the class loved him. We had a blast everytime he was in class! His spot in class was next to me, so we could banter back & forth. How I missed that after moving to Alpine.

As Judy said, Charles was a wonderful person and it is a better world for having known him. As another member of the Austin IBM Branch Office family, my heartfelt condolences. It was a pleasure to have shared the same time and space with him for a little while.

Charles was my partner at IBM for education and I loved him. We laughed most of the days we worked together. He was a gentlemen and a man of great care for others. I had not seen him but thought of him often. To his mother I too have a son that has moved to heaven and be assured that it is a wonderful place and we will all be together. Much sadness and love to all his family and close friends.
