David "Bulldawg" Lowrey

David Lowrey Obituary

David "Bulldawg" Lowrey David "Bulldawg" Lowrey, singer/songwriter/guitar player, died on December 23, 2010, due to complications after surgery. He was born in Austin, Texas on June 6, 1955, to George Andrew Lowrey, Jr. and Mary Jo Smith Lowrey. Dave was well known for his laugh and his love of talking to his friends on the phone. In 1997, David began spending his summers in Eugene, Oregon and winters in Austin, Texas, working and playing in bands, including Doctor Strangegrass and the Jinx St. Stompers. He loved the Oregon County Fair and was a veteran volunteer at the Kerrville Folk Festival. David, with his black leather hat and his guitar on his back, was a fixture in the old Austin scene. David is survived by a brother, Pat Lowrey of Virginia Beach, Virginia, a sister, Tina M. Lowrey (and her husband, L. J. Shrum) of San Antonio, Texas, a son, David Odenweller of Madison, Wisconsin, and an enormous extended family in South Austin, Eugene, the Kerrville and Rainbow festivals, Urbana, Illinois, and many more musicians across the USA. We will miss him dearly.

David was a dear friend to my brother, Greg, and also to me, although we had lost touch until he reached out Christmas 2009. His heart was as big as Texas. He was loved, and will be missed.

Dave, I haven't seen you since we were at Ed II together but you were always a fun, accepting, and wonderful guy! I wish I could have heard you play music! And I wonder if your leather hat was the same kind that you always wore at Ed II?

Gonna miss seeing your face at the mix, at no way out and in the meadow at the campfires. I took a little walk around the ranch to remember you when I heard. I hope there are blankets where you lie, and a pillow for your head. Jam on into the after life, friend.

Dear Dave, Texas Dave as we call him here in Eugene. We are going to miss you brother! More than you will ever know. You brought joy to us with your songs and crazy wonderful personality.
I was looking forward to hanging out with you next time you came to Eugene and seeing what new stuff you had for us. We will never forget you. You were such a good friend to me all these years and I'm so glad we got to spend time together during the summer. Peace friend...watch over us ok?
