Rainwater Doris N. Rainwater died Saturday, August 30, 2008, in Austin, Texas. Doris was born on January 28, 1913, in Brady, Texas. Her parents were Louis W. St. Clair and Mary Bridgit Campbell St. Clair. She graduated from Our Lady of the Lake High School in San Antonio in 1930, and at age 95, she was one of two remaining survivors of her class. Her school days there were among her fondest early memories. In 1934, Doris married Louis E. Rainwater, and in the early 1940s, they moved with their children to Corpus Christi, where she lived for over 60 years. Throughout her life, Doris was a talented artist who delighted friends and family with her beautiful portraits, paintings, drawings, and sculpture. She worked for Dillard's Department Store for more than 25 years, retiring only when she was nearly 80. She said she always enjoyed helping people select clothing to bring out their natural beauty, for which she had an excellent eye. She was well known for her own personal flair for fashion, as well, and her ability to strike up a conversation with even the shyest of customers. Since late 2004, Doris lived at Monte Siesta Nursing and Rehabilitation in Austin, Texas. Her family appreciates the care and attention she received during her residence there. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Louis, as well as her two brothers, Bernard St. Clair and Raymond St. Clair, her daughter, Sylvia Peoples, and two sons-in-law, Gene Dabney and Bob Corley. Doris is survived by one brother, Fredric St. Clair, four daughters, Linda Rainwater Dabney of San Antonio, Donna Rainwater Barber of Azle, Arlita Rainwater Corley of Littleton, Colorado, Catherine Rainwater, of Austin, and one son, Louis F. Rainwater of Corpus Christi. Along with her own children, she leaves behind grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. We will miss her more than any words can possibly convey. Her youngest, Catherine, will fondly recall her almost daily visits over the last four years with her mom, who was known around Monte Siesta as a sweet, quiet lady who always looked so pretty. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Seaside Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Seaside Funeral Home. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady, Texas. To view guestbook, leave condolences and shared memories please visit:
