Jacob Isaac Obituary

Jacob Isaac Sr. Jan. 23, 1920 - July 21, 2010 Jacob "Jake" Isaac was born January 23, 1920 to parents Jacob Isaac and Ollie Bell Isaac in Bartlett, Texas. He was the oldest of three children, a Christian at age 10 Jake grew up in Bartlett playing sports, hunting, fishing and helping his dad and mom in the Isaac Insurance Agency. Jake attended Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas where he met Enola Jean Cox. He graduated in 1941 with a B. S. in Business Administration, married Jean, his girlfriend and fellow graduate, that same year and moved to California. In California he worked in the Lockheed Aircraft plant and later in the California Shipbuilding Corporation before being drafted into the U. S. Army. After two years in the armed services he and Jean and their two daughters Betsy and Bonnie moved to Austin, where he joined the James H. Aldridge Company, a state wide insurance agency. Jake worked with Mr. Aldridge for nine years before taking a position with the Joe Crow Insurance Agency. Jake worked with Joe Crow for twenty years and then formed Insurance Specialists of Austin with several other partners. During this time their two other children Kate and Jake Jr. were born. Jake worked another 10 years with Insurance Specialist, much of the time as managing partner until he sold his share in the business and began working part time with what is now Achilles and Associates. But it wasn't all work with Jake; he made time for church, family, community, friends and fishing. The Isaac family attended University Avenue Church of Christ where Jake served as an elder for over 40 years. During those same years Jake was a Past President a faithful and integral part of the Downtown Optimist Club selling thousands of Christmas trees and helping innumerable kids growing up in Austin. In addition, Jake found time for family outings, frequenting Port Aransas and many other places in Texas and the U.S. After their retirement he and Jean enjoyed traveling in their RV to sites all over the U.S., Canada and Mexico. When he was at home, early on Saturday mornings you'd find Jake and friends in a domino game somewhere around Austin. Largemouth bass, smallmouth, whites and stripers, perch, gasper goo, trout, crappie, catfish, carp, redfish, drum, sheepshead, specks, sand trout, flounder, kingfish, marlin, sailfish, dorado and sharks are some of fish Jake landed with family and friends on so many of those trips, some of which were hair raising and some hilarious. Jake is survived by his sister Nancy Takahashi of Novato California and brother Paul Isaac of Brandon Florida, his daughters Betsy Isaac of Belize, Bonnie Isaac of Port Aransas, Kate Jones of Austin and son Jake Isaac Jr. of Seguin. Other surviving family include three granddaughters, two grandsons, and six great-grandchildren. Through all his journeys, accomplishments and adventures Jake made friends. If you're one of those please come and help us celebrate his life. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Austin Peel and Son Funeral Home. Service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Bartlett City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests you make a charitable donation to Hospice Austin.

Dear Bonnie - I was so sorry to hear about your recent loss. I've gone through the same thing with both my parents, and know that it's a tough experience.
You and your family are in our prayers.

What a wonderful legacy your parents left to you children and to their grandchildren and even to their great-grandchildren. Jake and Jean Isacc were very special people to my wife and to me. While we were in Texas during June and July of this year we were thrilled to see Jake at church. One week ago today we returned to York College in York, Nebraska to teach and help the college for another year.

Your dad's quite, gentle spirit was an example to all. Our prayer is that God will comfort you in your loss today and in the days to come.

Our love,
Jackie and Joe Humphrey

I'll miss greatly sitting at the table right behind Jake at Optimist Club. He was a faithful member LONG before I showed up; and we have already lamented what a large hole has been made in the club with the loss of Jake. I'll think of him each week when I see his empty chair.
