Jared Young Obituary

Jared Michael Young Writer Hermann Broch tells us that when someone close to us dies, we inherit a part of our loved one's freed soul, and become richer in our humanness. Certainly that is the hope of the family and many friends of Jared Michael Young, who died Sunday, November 1. Jared was born on June 12, 1989, and during his 20 short years Jared left his mark on many, both family and friends. As a boy, Jared was the classic middle kid, skinny but tall for his age, his strawberry blond hair topping wide, curious eyes and a slow, sly grin that would spread across his face whenever his brothers involved him in another (often ill-fated) scheme. As he grew to young manhood, so did his love for everything physical and anything outdoors. A parade of outdoor sporting gear--bikes, skateboards, wake boards, snow boards--seemed constantly to attach and re-attach itself to his feet. He was Austin-grown, through and through, a perfect fit for this city and its surrounding terrain. He did nothing at half-speed, knew no half-measures and disdained moderation in all things. Jared amassed friends by the dozen, who were drawn to him because he made them happy, because they felt good around him, because it was always clear that he cared about them. He was beloved of his family, who taught him and learned from him, praised him and prayed for him, frustrated him and loved him in every possible way. Like many among us, he had struggles, and dark edges, which he faced with all the courage, honesty and grace he could muster, and his family and his friends loved him all the more as a result. Jared was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert P. Brake, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Patricia A. Young Brown; and step-father, Gregory W. Brown; his father, Timothy E. Young; his brothers, Nicholas E. Young, Joel P. Young and Drew G. Brown; grandparents, Eddie and Arlene Young; grandmother, Shirley Brake; a very large and loving extended family, and a legion of dear friends. His loss is untimely and unthinkable. We will miss him sorely and surely are better for having known and loved him. A memorial celebration of Jared's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7th at Umlauf Sculpture Garden, 605 Robert E. Lee, Austin, 78704. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Austin Child Guidance Center at www.austinchildguidance.org or to Lifeworks at www.lifeworksaustin.org. We are saddened by the loss of Jared. We pray that God gives each of you rest and peace in Him.
Rev. 21:4&5
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

Trish,
I have been profoundly saddened since hearing of your loss almost a week ago. Even so, I wasn't ready for the tears that came with listening each time a friend and family member shared memories and lessons learned from Jared at his memorial celebration today. It is clear there are many on whom he made a lifelong impression who are also grieving Jared's passing. As would be expected for someone described by a few as the "life of the party", there were a few good laughs as well. There were so many people at the celebration! I wonder what he would have answered if asked who his best friend was, given that he was claimed the best friend of so many (my bet is that he would answer that it's Drew). So many of the stories were touching...it's clear it was just the tip of the iceberg of what stories are being by others, as Tim pointed out. Maybe some day we'll hear it told that he skateboarded, snowboarded, wake-boarded, and boarded spaceships on his way out to another Galaxy and is Mayor of the Parmigiano Moon of Planet Delicious (those of you know what I mean if you were at the celebration).
My thoughts and prayers go out to Jared, you, your family, Jared's friends, and your family friends at this difficult time and in the days ahead. If there is meaning to this I know you will find it. Stay strong. Healing will come. Jared was, is, and will always be loved.

Trish, Greg, Tim, and family,
My heart goes to all of you during this difficult time. I have a picture of Jared at 3 years old etched in my mind from the lunch tables at The Montessori Center where he is looking straight at the camera and he just had this look on his face! So cute, chubby cheeks.. I saw him again this summer, he was at our house visiting Tess, and his face was the same. Tess and I are both so saddened by this news, and are sending you extra love. I find myself profoundly saddened by your loss, Tim and family. I have fond memories of Jared's capable and willing hands working along side volunteers to set up and tear down the marvelous Viva! Las Vegas fundraiser. I looked forward to seeing him year after year, as he grew from a boy into a young man. He impressed me with his good hearted nature and kindness to strangers; he made a positive difference in the lives of others with his support.
Peace to you Tim, Trish, and your entire family,
Sue
