Jeffrey Green Obituary
Family-Placed Obituary
Marine Corporal Jeffrey George Green, 20, of Irving, was found deceased on May 5, 2004, in the Euphrates River, in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Cpl. Green went missing while crossing the Euphrates during a night combat patrol. Cpl. Green was an infantryman assigned to Company F, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. He joined the Marine Corps on June 4, 2001. His personal awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and he has been submitted for the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of the Scout Swimmers and Assault Climbers courses and had been stationed in Okinawa and Camp Pendleton before Iraq. Being a Marine was a life's goal for Jeff and he served proudly. Jeff Green was born in Fredericktown, Missouri, on June 20, 1983, and moved to Springfield, Missouri, in March of 1985. He attended Springfield Lutheran School. His schooling continued at Americus Junior High in Americus, Georgia, Leander Middle School in Leander, Texas, Cedar Park High School in Cedar Park, Texas, and Lutheran High School of Dallas, Texas. Jeff was an avid camper, loved fast cars and motorcycles, music, reading, drawing, and physical activity. While on a trip to Switzerland with his family, he decided to conquer an Alp, turning back only when he realized that the other climbers had technical gear while he was free-climbing. He achieved his Life Scout rank and he could recite the specifications of any object in the Star Wars universe. Jeff is survived by his parents, Richard and Wendy Green of Clearwater, Florida; by his brother, John Green of Cedar Park, Texas; his sisters, Amy Green of Thomaston, Georgia, Kathy Green of Kansas City, Missouri, and Melinda Green; and by his grandparents, Dell and Virginia Green of Austin, Texas, and George Chatley of Port Orange, Florida. He also leaves behind his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. All of us will miss him very much. Memorials may be sent to the Springfield Lutheran School Scholarship Fund, 2852 S. Dayton Ave., Springfield, MO 65807, Lutheran High School, 8494 Stults Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, or the First Evangelical Lutheran School Scholarship Fund, 1644 Nursery Road, Clearwater, FL 33756. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m., at the King of Kings Lutheran Church, 17000 Smyers Lane, Round Rock, Texas. Interment will follow at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, at 2:00 p.m., with full military honors. Hello,
I am John McDaniel from Leander, Texas. I was with Jeff during his time as a boy scout here in Leander. Jeff was a very fine young man who always had a great attitude. He was funny, happy, and was always willing to help other scouts. I can remember my first summer camp as an assistant scout master. We went to Camp Tahuaya in Texas. Jeff was there with the older boys patrol. There is a large spring fed swimming pool at the camp. I can remember some of the other scout masters with the troop participating in a friendly race to the other side of the pool with the older boys. All the young men swam much better than all but one or two of the scout masters. I was the last swimmer to make it to the other side. When I finally finished, Jeff smiled at me and said nice job Mr. McDaniel. Not a hint of sarcasm, not a bit of "better than you", just a genuine acknowledgement of a challenge completed. That was the way Jeff was in everything he did. It saddened me when I heard of the loss of Jeff. It still saddens me to know that he cannot share his enthusiasm and joy with those around him. I currently have a son in the U.S. Army stationed in Camp Hovey, South Korea, so I know the pain and anxiety that is a constant companion of a father with a child in the military. Thank you Jeff for your sacrifice. You are not forgotten.

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Cpl Green. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Cpl Green knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience, and for that we can never say thank you enough.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A.
