Joel Salas Obituary

Joel Salas, Jr. Joel Salas, Jr., 48, of Richmond, TX, beloved son, husband, brother, and uncle, was born in Austin, TX, on June 14, 1962, and died March 6, 2011, in Richmond, TX. He graduated from William B. Travis High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin, Colorado Technical University, and the University of Texas at Tyler. He held a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's degree in human resources. Joel was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church, serving in the music ministry for numerous years at the First United Methodist Church of Rosenberg. Music was his passion and he was a gifted pianist and percussionist. Joel is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Margaret Rodriguez Salas, his parents, the Reverend Joel and Esther Salas, sister, Norma Jean Metevier and brother-in-law, Christopher Metevier, younger sister, Sandra Elizabeth Salas, and grandmother, Olivia Gonzales Salinas. Joel is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews: Madelyn and Mark Metevier, John V. Rodriguez, Lauren A. Rodriguez, Chris J. Aguilar, Eric A. Aguilar, and John R Aguilar, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pedro Salinas, and Dorcas and Manuel Salas, and uncle, Pito Hernandez. The family is having services in Rosenberg and Austin. The Rosenberg viewing will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Garmany & Carden, 1201 Fourth Street, Rosenberg, Texas, 77471. The Rosenberg funeral service will be Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Rosenberg, 1127 Third Street, Rosenberg, Texas 77471. The Austin memorial service will be Friday, March 11, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 200 Brushy Street, Austin, Texas 78702. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church at the address above, or to First United Methodist Church of Rosenberg, 1106 Fourth Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
