Manouchehr Hezari Obituary

Manouchehr Hezari Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Manouchehr Hezari winged his flight to his eternal home on June 21, 2010. He was born in Qazvin, Iran on June 5, 1922 to Rachid and Laal Hezari. He grew up immersed in the Baha'i Faith, a religion that proclaims the unity of mankind, the elimination of all forms of prejudice and service to humanity. He graduated from the University of Tehran with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was passionate about learning and technology. At the young age of 9, he wired his parents' house for electricity, having watched the town's only electrician wire some homes, and remained intellectually curious and sharp to the end of his life. In May 1950, he married the love of his life, Hovieh Siavochi and they had three daughters. In September 1953, he left his native land and headed to Tangier, Morocco in response to a call for Baha'is to settle in areas where the Baha'i Faith had not yet been established. The Baha'i Faith has no clergy or missionaries and it is through the settling of pioneers like himself that the Faith has spread to every continent, nation and remote location. In 1953, there were still countries where no Baha'is resided and those who arose to introduce the Faith at that time were designated as Knights of Baha'u'llah. Mr. Hezari worked at the Voice of America for 27 years and was recognized for his integrity and the quality of his work. In 1982, he immigrated to the United States with his wife and his two youngest daughters so they could pursue higher education. He worked at UT Austin as an engineer in the College of Communications. Throughout his life, Mr. Hezari was a trusted advisor and friend to many who were drawn to his gentle manner and kindness. He was a radiant lover of Baha'u'llah who exuded love, humility and joy wherever he went. He was enormously loved by his family and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hovieh, his daughters Roya, Mehri and Emilia, their husbands, Florentino and Klaus-Peter and his beloved grandchildren, Victor and Lucas. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home in Austin. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park. The Hezari family were among the first we met in the Austin, TX Baha'i community when we moved here from from California. They welcomed us wholeheartedly as if they had known us for years. My fondest memory of Mr. Hezari was during a local spiritual assembly meeting decades ago when, after patiently listening to a lively (and occasionally heated) debate about the relative effectiveness of different teaching methods, he calmly stood and said, "Friends, our duty as Baha'is is merely to share the Faith, to convey its message, to open the door and step aside so the seeker can enter." These words made a permanent impression on me and changed the way I shared the Baha'i Faith from that day on. His gentle and loving nature serves as an example to us all. -Eric Welch and family

To: Hoviyeh, Mehri, Emilia and family: my condolences…
what can I say that others have not???
Story:
I do not know if you know this: When I was working at the University: I would deliberately go and visit Mr. Hezari during work breaks. He was always gentle, kind, and loving; he always gave me some of his precious time. During those times it was a pleasant respite (much needed) from the turmoil's I was experiencing at the time.
I once asked him how he taught the Faith: his response was to live the life so that everyone who you touch (briefly~long term) knows where this gift comes from; aka, "live the life" so that they start to ask questions. I have honored his response.

Love to all of you, I am grateful for everyone's Love and Friendship, this life and the next.
P.S. Michel sends her love to you…

Dearest Hezari Family,

Several years ago, before my planned trip to Morocco, I called Mr. Hrzari and asked him if he still has any Baha'i contact in Morocco. Since he has been gone from there several years before, It took few days, and by phone and email he found several Baha'i contacts. On my trip to Morocco I was able to meet Baha'is there.
They invited me to their home and had a gathring of local Baha'is Marrakesh.
It was a lovely meeting and it became possible because of Mr. Hezari. I took several pictures and brought it back for Mr. Hezari which delighted his heart.

He is missed among us, and I am sure his soul is blessed in Abha kingdom.

I get the feeling that I'm not the only one who Manouchehr treated like a son. He had, still has, the knack for making one feel special, loved deeply and honored . . . like you deserved honor just because God had given you the gift of nobility. That's it: NOBILITY. You felt it in him and he somehow shared his with you by just being around him. I'll miss him.

Dearest Hoviyeh, Mehri, Emilia and family,
Manouchehr is ever close to us. There really is no separation between this world and the next. What a blessing it was for me (Shelly) to be able to work with Manouchehr in our service to Baha'u'llah. Terry and I will always remember his kindness, his laughter and his devotion to the Baha'i Faith. We are with you all this Saturday and every day. He would want us to be happy. We love you all...what more is there to say? Please do be assured of our love for each of you. Thinking of Manouchehr brings a smile to our hearts.

"Blessed is the soul which, at the hour of its separation from the body, is sanctified from the vain imaginings of the peoples of the world. Such a soul liveth and moveth in accordance with the Will of its Creator, and entereth the all-highest Paradise. The Maids of Heaven, inmates of the loftiest mansions, will circle around it, and the Prophets of God and His chosen ones will seek its companionship. With them that soul will freely converse, and will recount unto them that which it hath been made to endure in the path of God, the Lord of all worlds. If any man be told that which hath been ordained for such a soul in the worlds of God, the Lord of the throne on high and of earth below, his whole being will instantly blaze out in his great longing to attain that most exalted, that sanctified and resplendent station..." ~ Baha'u'llah
