Margaret Neyland Obituary

Margaret Yoakam Neyland Sunrise: April 12, 1929 Sunset: April 23, 2011 After a lengthy illness, Margaret died early Saturday morning in Katy, Texas. Born to Cyrus E. and Mamie Ruth Yoakam, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Margaret spent much of her youth in San Antonio, Texas. She attended Saint Mary's Hall and Jefferson High School. Upon graduation, Margaret attended the St. Louis Institute of Music and The University of Texas @ Austin. While in college she studied to be a classical musician, and loved music all of her life. Before graduating, she met and married Darrell E. Neyland. To this union, were born three daughters; Sonna, Stephanie and Ruthie. Margaret and Darrell raised their three girls in Austin, Texas. The family had many happy times and especially enjoyed vacationing in the Colorado Mountains. As a great fan of Al-Anon, Margaret courageously met life's challenges and made many friends. She was a true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and saw life through the lens of her beliefs. Margaret moved to Katy, Texas upon her divorce to Darrell in 1993. She lived there, close to her oldest daughter, Sonna, until her death. Preceding her in death are her parents and sister, Carolyn Torgerson Castellaw. Margaret is survived by daughters: Sonna Lumpkins and husband George, Katy, TX; Stephanie Huff and husband, Jody, of Ruidoso, NM; and Ruthie Scott and husband, Doug, of Hutto, TX. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Shan Bates, Melanie Mahaffey, Grant Bates, Jordan Lumpkins Christie Mahaffey Kriofske, Kyle Lumpkins and Patrick Scott. Also included are step-grandchildren: Chad Scott, Tim Scott, Steven Scott, and Jack Huff. There is to be a private family service for Margaret, on April 26th, in San Antonio, Texas. Arrangements are by Schmidt Funeral Home of Katy. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the charity of their choosing.

Sonna, Stephanie, and Ruthie: I still remember everything about your parents and your home. I had forgotten the music. I really enjoyed your mother. And it's nice that she had so many grandkids. I enjoyed the way you wrote about her. Love to all, Chris Edmondson-Y. (My parents are still in their home.)
