Family-Placed Obituary

Paul Burns Paul Burns passed away on April 5, 2005, from a heart attack at the age of 71. He was born July 20, 1933, to Frank and Ava Burns in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University (OSU) where he played baseball for the Buckeyes. He remained a loyal OSU sports fan. Paul spent 22 years as a U.S. Secret Service agent and worked various Presidential protection details including John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson and Harry S. Truman. Paul traveled the world during his time with the Secret Service and was still active with the Association of Retired Agents. Paul retired from the Secret Service in 1983, and continued to work part time doing independent background investigations. Paul enjoyed retired life playing golf with his buddies at Balcones Country Club, cooking, watching sports events on television, using his computer skills, relaxing by their pool, traveling and spending time with his family. He was outgoing and enjoyed meeting new people. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ava Burns. He is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Dorothy; his daughter, Beverly Glenn of Steamboat Springs; two sons, Michael Burns and his wife Lori of Coral Gables Florida, and Dr. Thomas Burns and his wife Phoebe of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Grant and Alex Glenn, Kendall and Peyton Burns; his brother, Ronald Burns of Redding, California and nephews, Dana and Matt Burns. Memorial Service to be held Wednesday April 13th at 1:00 p.m., at Cook Walden Funeral Home at 9700 Anderson Mill Road in Austin. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the charity of your choice.

The few times I spent around Paul, I came to know what a fine man he was. It is through my friendship with Dorothy and Dr. Burns that I know what a wonderful husband and father he was. At this time of deep sorrow, Dorothy, Dr. Burns and family: know that God is good in all things…. My thoughts and prayers are with you now..
