Ruth Mangum Obituary
Ruth Lynn (Manning) Mangum Ruth Lynn (Manning) Mangum, 91, of Round Rock, Texas went to be with the Lord at her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Ruth was born March 14, 1918, in San Benito, Texas to Mr. Kent Samuel Manning, Sr., and Mrs. Helen Brooks Manning. She was the wife of Mr. Charles Hansel Mangum, who preceded her in death on December 3, 1983. After graduation from high school in McAllen, Texas, Ruth began a professional career as Manager of the Montgomery Ward office, in Baytown, Texas. There, she met Hansel Mangum, her future husband of forty-four years. As a mother, she raised five children while the family lived in Baytown, Wharton, Cuero, and San Antonio. She was an inspiration to her children and family members, teaching and sharing with them her major intellectual interests in history and genealogy. She was most proud of her Manning family history which began in England with an ancestor surviving the trip to America on the Mayflower. Her New England roots include ancestors who were instrumental in the founding of Harvard University and served as soldiers in the Revolutionary War. Ruth was a member of the San Antonio Genealogy Society and conducted years of extensive research into the Manning, Mangum, and extended family history. She leaves extensive research papers and documents to her family as a great example of her dedicated professionalism in performing very detailed, accurate, and factual research in the field of genealogy.
