James Joseph Damman James Joseph Damman, 78, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2011, in Austin, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born January 16, 1933, to Adolph and Rose Damman of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Jim was a successful entrepreneur and former Lieutenant Governor of Michigan. Before entering public service, Jim worked at the Damman Hardware retail chain, a family business founded by his father Adolph. After serving in the U.S. Army, he continued in public service as an active member of the Jaycees and the Rotary Club. Jim later served as City Commissioner in Troy, Mich. After a few years as a real estate executive, Jim founded QuantumDigital Incorporated, a technology company based in Austin, Texas. Today QuantumDigital employs over 100 people, delivering direct mail, on-demand printing and email marketing to companies all over North America. Jim was an active member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, and was generous in philanthropic activities such as Texas Alliance for Life, San Juan Diego High School, Salvation Army, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, and Heroic Media. His additional passions included traveling, playing golf with his friends at Lost Creek Country Club, and enjoying his home on Lake Austin. Surviving Jim is his wife of 54 years Margaret (Peg); three daughters, Joan Kramer (Robert), Susan Peyton, and Sandra Shaw (Robert); three sons, Jim (Renaye), Stephen (Debra), and Mark; a sister, Shirley and brother Bernard. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Damman on a nonprofit project. I was very impressed with his chivalry, kindness, and respect. He clearly had a passion for life and love for his family and his co-workers. I'm sure he was a very busy man, but took the time to give me a tour of his workplace, clearly very proud of what he had built, and the people with whom he worked every day. Chivalry is not dead, and Mr. Damman was a kind, strong family man who loved God and others. It's not often people leave an impact on you like that.

I first met Jim Damman in late 1998 when I came to work for QuantumDigital. I was immediately struck by his generous, gentle nature and disarming wit. Since that time, the warmth and sense of family I've felt from him and the rest of the Dammans has only increased. A true father and leader in every respect, I feel my life is richer for having known him. I will miss him greatly, and I will always keep him in my prayers.
