Vera Engert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2011.
Vera Ruth Engert May 13, 1932 - Aug. 13, 2011 Vera Ruth Engert passed on August 13, 2011, surrounded by her loving children, Valrie, Steven and Lisa along with her devoted husband Max. Vera came into this world on May 13, 1932 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Her early years were challenging, at which time Vera formed an inner strength, which resounded, throughout her life. Vera was married to Leonard Wolfson and raised three wonderful children. Always driven, Vera entered into the medical field and worked at St. Joseph's hospital, eventually becoming the Director of Neurophysiology. Art and music was always a large part of her life. She enjoyed taking art lessons and painting scenes in her favorite family vacation spot, Rockport, MA. She brought art and music into the lives of her children, sharing the artistic vein, which continues to flow through them to her grandchildren. Family was very important to her and no one loved the holidays more. From making Halloween costumes to sending homemade jam and liquors to friends and family, Vera's life was her holiday. She always brought her family together for every celebration. In 1991, Vera married the love of her life, Max Engert and moved to Lakeway, Texas. She shared her love of music as she began to sing with the Wildflowers as well as in the local Lakeway church. She continued to paint the beautiful scenes of her life, covering her warm Austin home with colorful art. She was best characterized as the "life of the party" and loved every minute of her life despite the constraints of her illnesses. Anyone who met her liked her and anyone who knew her loved her. With her bright blue eyes, she saw the world through brush strokes and brilliant colors and filled the lives of others with such vividness. Vera was survived by her husband, Max Engert; sister, Wreatha Leonard; brother, Donald Negus; children, Valrie and Jerry Mintzer, Steven and Vivian Wolfson, and Lisa and Al Kabus, Theresa and Greg Womble; grandchildren, Zachary Mintzer, Lauren and Angela Wolfson, Lindsey and Matthew Kabus, Millicent, Emerson, and Maren Womble and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Lakeway Church on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a tribute has been organized with the American Heart Association where donations may be sent (www.heart.org).
