Dr. Henry Roland
LtCol (ret) Henry Roland Beckcom, DDS, age 88, of Smithville, Texas passed from this life May 13, 2015. He was born in Jacksonville, Texas on January 19, 1927 to Edwin Augustus Beckcom, Sr and Hazel Andrews Beckcom.

During World War II, as part of the Aviation Cadet Program, he attended the University of Arkansas. After the war, he matriculated at Trinity University in San Antonio. He graduated from The University of Texas Dental School in Houston in 1952.

He proudly served his country for almost 28 years, first in the Army Air Service as a B-29 mechanic, then later in the United States Air Force as a dentist.

The culmination of his Air Force career came when he was Southern Command Dental Surgeon from 1973-1976 stationed in Panama.

After retiring from the Air Force, Dr. Beckcom worked at the State Hospital in Big Spring, Texas. Later he moved to Palestine, Texas and finally to Smithville, Texas.

A lifelong Presbyterian, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Smithville.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 68 years, Mildred Kreitz Beckcom and his sons, Chris Beckcom and his wife Rosanne, and James Kevin Beckcom and his wife Elizabeth. Dr. Beckcom is also survived by a grandson, Ian Beckcom and his fiancé, Hutton Hipps, and a granddaughter, Caitlan Beckcom Sykora and her husband, Collin Sykora.
