Mick BRETHOWER Obituary

BRETHOWER, Mick
Mick Brethower, age 54, of Georgetown died unexpectedly on April 9, 2016. He was born April 12, 1961 in Hastings, NE to Rodney and Julie Brethower. The family moved to Evergreen, CO where he grew up loving the outdoors and was an avid skier and golfer. He graduated high school and then studied at the University of Arkansas and the University of Colorado on a golf scholarship.

Mick moved to Texas in 1987 and started a long and successful career in the mutual fund industry as a wholesaler with The American Funds Group. He loved what he did and the people it brought him into contact with. Mick never met a stranger and developed long term friendships with many of the clients he called on in addition to many of his co-workers.

In 1995, he met and married the love of his life, Debbie Brethower. They settled in Georgetown and became active members of their community and Celebration Church.

Mick loved life and lived it to its fullest. He was passionate about food and wine. He and Debbie frequently entertained in their home and traveled extensively with family and friends. Mick maintained his Colorado roots by spending quality time there as a family in summer and a special tradition for the Christmas holidays. He continued to enjoy golf and had a multitude of golfing buddies. Mick was also a hunter and loved taking his Labrador dogs along with him. More recently, Mick became a licensed pilot.

As full as Mick's life was, family was always the most important thing to him. He and Debbie welcomed a daughter, Bella, into their lives in 2004. She was his greatest joy. Mick loved being a husband and father, beloved son and brother, uncle and friend. He had a loving and giving heart and we will miss his cheerful, bigger than life spirit.

He is survived by Debbie, his wife of 20 years, and daughter, Bella; son, Jordan Harmon and his wife, Cristal, of New Braunfels, TX, and grandchildren Kirsten, Teegan, Hope and Kaydince; his parents, Rodney and Julie Brethower, his sister Tammie Brethower and niece Phoebe, all of Phoenix, AZ; his brother-in-laws, David Jackson and wife, Jamie, Dennis Jackson and wife, Belle, Danny Jackson and wife, Kellye, all of Tyler, TX, along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Mick's life will be held at 3:00pm on April 14, 2016 at Celebration Church, 1202 Rabbit Hill Rd., Georgetown, TX 78626. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mick's memory to the Forward Campaign at Celebration Church.

Memories and Condolences
for Mick BRETHOWER

Not sure what to say?

April 9, 2019

Mick Brethower owns a piece of my heart. He was a a consummate friend, sportsman and aficionado of fun times. Mick "wrote the book" on how to have good time and believe me he knew what he was talking about.
I had the privilege to see the man at work and at play. He was a super star at both "careers." I know he is keeping an eye on his family and his legions of friends from on high. Thanks for the memories pal. Feebs

Missed and never forgotten,

Hard to believe our good friend Mick has been gone for 3 years. His good friends and I speak of him often and as the days go by, you realize what a special soul he truly was.
Personally, i think of him often and rarely play golf without thinking about him and our many fun times on the course, wherever we were.

Debbie, i hope you and Bella are well.

Just heard of Mick's passing today. So sorry to hear about this. I was a golf team friend of Mick's from his days at Arkansas. I love the part of his obit that says, "Mick never met a stranger", so true!

He will be missed!

I've known Mick since Jr High School, before we even had our licenses to drive. I saw Mick just about every day for years when we played on the golf team together.

And I don't remember a single one of those days that he didn't find something to laugh about. No exaggeration.

As a 2-handicap, Mick put 7 balls in a row off the tee in the river one day at Denver Country Club during one of our team matches and scored a 15 on one hole. His reaction? Laughter about how he put the driver away, took out his 7-iron a bunted it off the tee so it wouldn't be number 8!

Funny and very passionate about even the little things, Mick left me with a love for avocados, and a distaste for mayonnaise that continues to this day.

He loved his Jeep, his yellow labs, (Tanner and Tanner Too), and his family. He loved making his Dad proud.

A loyal friend with an infectious personality, Mick was one of those rare and unforgettable characters. I feel lucky to have known him.

My deepest condolences on Mick's passing. I got to know Mick over 20 years ago through one of our mutual best friends, Marty Fowler. Mick was an incredibly gracious host on a few of our trips to Austin to golf, waterski, watch the Buffs lose in football and generally have a great time. Mick was a truly infectious personality who treated everyone with respect and dignity regardless of their station in life and was an extremely talented man on top of being a great friend, father, husband, son and brother.
May all of the great memories of such a fulfilling life comfort you in this most difficult time.

Debbie and Family,

Mick was one of the first I met at American Funds in 1994. It was immediately clear that he had a special talent to connect and change peoples lives with his friendship. He had the ability to make people he interacted with better. It was a treat and a privilege to spend the better part of my career around him. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Rod & Julie:

Mick seemed like part of our family. Wayne and Mike grew up with Mick. They played golf together, they laughed together, and many other "togethers"
Mick brought us the chocolate lab we knew as Skippy
I guess we could go on for quite awhile

Over and above all these wonderful memories is the fact that Mick was a wonderful man and husband

Hopefully for you and many others his lasting memory will be with us for a long time

May you find peace in knowing you are proud parents of a very good man

Many people have said "wouldn't I be great to live life like Mickey." Mick brought a joy to everyone he touched. My thoughts are with his a family and his many friends.

Debbie, Jordan, Bella and family:

My sympathies to you and to Mick's parents and all family members. Mick and I worked in the same field as wholesalers to the financial services community. He was a leader who was always ready to step up whenever there was a need. Mick mentored more than a few of the most successful advisors and planners in the industry.
He will always be remembered for his positive attitude, caring spirit, and his high ethical standards. He will be greatly missed by all.

Julie and Rod,

I'm so sorry and shocked to hear of Mick's passing. My wife Kendra and I moved to Texas in 2003 with my career change and I've been by Cimmeron Hills frequently in my Territory Manager role with Club Car. I always asked the Staff about Mick as I knew he was Member there. I'll do everything possible to attend tomorrow and, albeit under these circumstances, look forward to seeing you.

My heartfelt condolences,

To Debbie, Bella, Rod, Julie, Tammie and all..

As you continue to grieve this unexpected loss, know that Mick will continue to be in my heart as well as the hearts of countless many. The conversations I have had with so many of Mick's friends this week has helped tremendously.

As you continue to grasp for peace during this time of intense sorrow, know that you are not alone.

As you know Mick was loved by many and I personally, will think of him daily.

I will miss my occasional presence at Mick's standing Wednesday tee time at Pine Forest CC.

Rest in Peace my good friend
