Frances Bones Batla left this earthly life on July 14, 2016 at the age of 88. She was born April 5, 1928 in Dallas, Texas, and lived most of her life on the R. S. Young ranch in Cedar Valley, Texas. She graduated from Austin High School in 1946. In 1947 she married a sailor, Raymond James Batla Sr., and spent the next 10 years living in various interesting places, seeing the world outside of Texas. In 1957 the family moved back to Cedar Valley, where Frances lived for the last 59 years of her life. She was the fourth generation of the Robert Sidney Young family to care for the property that was settled in the early 1870's.

Frances was always interested in family and local history, especially of the Cedar Valley area and the families who settled and tamed the area in the early days of the state. She was the last official secretary of the Oak Hill - Cedar Valley Pioneer Association.

She is survived by three children, Raymond James Batla, Walter John Batla and Charmaine Richardson. She rests in peace now, sharing stories and memories with many generations of ancestors and friends who went before her.
