David Poole Obituary

David Loyd Poole

May 4, 1944 - May 4, 2012

WOODBURN - David was born in Berwyn, Illinois to Loyd and Betty (Ruch) Poole. They moved to California when David was very young and he grew up in Glendale and the San Fernando Valley. He graduated from Grenada Hills High School and attended UCLA and University of California at Berkeley.

David packed a lot into his life. He was a kitchen helper on a Swedish freighter, a construction worker on the BART system, a partner on the Pacific Stock Exchange, and a trader on the floor of the NYSE. After working at Gallagher Capital Corporation several years, Dave decided to be a full-time writer and he wrote several novels and screenplays. He was also a published poet and an abstract expressionist painter.

He is survived by his wife, Carla Mikkelson, and his two children Emma Mikkelson and Owen Poole. He was a father figure to a lot of young people, including Bailey McConn and Amanda Deyerle.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, May 11, at 2:00 pm, at Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Woodburn.

David and I first became friends in kindergarden at
Edison elementary school in Glendale. CA. We have remained friends for over sixty years. I shall miss you my old friend. My prayers will include Carla, Emma, Owen and the Poole family.

David was my uncle. I knew him when I was a child but lost touch. I wish I had an opportunity to know him as an adult.
