Katie Wasson Frech, 92, longtime resident of St. Augustine, passed away, peacefully, Sept. 13, 2011, at her son"s home in Cornelia, Ga.
Survivors include her son, William (Linda) Frech of Cornelia, Ga; a daughter, Bonnie (Wayne) Underwood of Newnan, Ga; six grandchildren: William Frech,III of Atlanta; Marnie (Paul) Plaia of Atlanta; Matthew (Keely) Frech of Valdosta, Ga; Jenna (Scott) Hentosz of Newnan, Ga; Vicki Lynn (Rod) Arguello of Mobile, Ala; Tina (James) Long of Newnan, Ga; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother Woodrow Wasson of Nashville, Tenn; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as church family and friends in St. Augustine.
She was a member of the St. Augustine Church of Christ.
A graveside memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Evergreen Cemetary with minister Bob Berkert officiating.
Born Aug. 14, 1919, in Plant City Fla., she was the daughter of the late Walter Herman and Zora Brown Wasson of St. Augustine. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Laura Ethel Frech; six brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Frech, a retired RN, graduated from Ketterlinus High School in St. Augustine and St. Thomas School of Nursing in Nashville, Tenn. In the past, she had worked at Mt. Dora Children"s Home as a house parent, as a medical missionary in West Cameroon, Africa, and at Florida School For the Deaf and Blind as well as several local nursing homes.
Katie was known for her love of reading, travel and study of the Bible. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Dora Children"s Home, 301 W. 13th Ave., Mt. Dora, Florida 32757.
Evergreen Cemetary is in charge of arrangements.
