Nancy (Anne) Pearce Johnson, 87, of St. Augustine, and formerly of East Palatka, died Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine following an extended illness. A native of Wilton, Conn., she was raised in Palatka and resided there until 1938. She returned to Putnam County in 1981 coming from Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
Mrs. Pearce-Johnson considered her three most important priorities in life to be: Faith, Family and Friends and in that order. While raising her children in Cleveland Heights and with these priorities at the forefront, she was active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she served as assistant youth leader and served in numerous other community endeavors including, assistant den mother and historian with the Cub Scouts, assistant Brownie and Girl Scouts leader, a volunteer at the V.A. Medical Center and also served as president of the Aurora, OH Country Club LPGA.
Upon returning to Putnam County, she was a devoted member at St. Mark's Episcopal Church where she was active in the Daughters of the King, the St. Mark's guild and served on the memorial committee. Mrs. Pearce-Johnson also became active in the community, having been a volunteer for over 20 years at Putnam Community Medical Center where she was a patient advocate, membership chairman and past-president of the volunteers. She also served as president of the Palatka Country Club LPGA and was a World War II USO volunteer.
After moving to St. Augustine in 2002, Nancy took on the role as welcoming chair-person and resident council president at The Allegro, her new residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Senator and Mrs. Basil C. Pearce; her husband of 61 years, Carl Arthur Johnson; son, Charles Winthrop Johnson and a brother, Basil Charles Pearce, Jr., an ensign in the U.S. Navy killed in World War II.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Johnson Walton and her husband, Noel Eugene Walton; daughter-in-law, Nancy Chase Johnson; her grandchildren, Lisa Johnson Rouleau, Kristin Johnson Granato and husband, Tony G. Granato, Scott A. Walton and wife, Betty Theodore Walton, Sheryl Walton Arthurs and husband, Chris Arthurs; great-grandchildren, Rachel A. Arthurs, Christopher D. Arthurs, Travis L. Granato, Lauren A. Granato, Madison E. Rouleau; brother-in-law, Frank E. Johnson; nieces, Christine E. Johnson Paulson and Janice L. Johnson; great-nieces, Kimberly L. Paulson, Aimee M. Paulson and Skylar Johnson.
She is also survived by her very close friends, Margaret Wilhite, Floy Lowe, Dot Reynolds, Nancy Trescot and Joyce Conlee.
Services celebrating the life of Nancy Pearce Johnson will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Palatka with The Rev. James M. Dorn, III, Rector, officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palatka. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
Flowers are gratefully accepted or the family requests memorial donations may be made to either the building fund or organ fund at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 370, Palatka, FL 32178, or the Lee Conlee House, P.O. Box 2558, Palatka, FL 32178 or to Rodeheaver Boys Ranch, 380 Boys Ranch Rd., Palatka, FL 32177.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
