Harriet Fulton Obituary

Fulton, Harriet

Harriet Marie Fulton (nee Berens) of Amherst, passed away on Sunday, December 9th, at age 86. Harriet was preceded in death by her beloved husband William (Bill) Fulton and her blessed cousin Fr. Malik of St. James Church. Harriet was born at home to Alex and Hattie (Merklein) Berens on December 13th 1925 in the midst of excitement. The family physician, Dr. Cowan, was racing to their home in a blizzard. His horse-drawn cutter overturned spilling Doctor and medicine bag out into the snow. Horse and Doctor escaped injury. The good Doctor up-righted the cutter and made it, with bag and a steady hand, in time for her birth. Harriet and Bill were married at the Smokey Hill Army Air Force Base Chapel on Nov. 29, 1944. She greatly enjoyed their waterfront homes and working in their large flower gardens. She was a dedicated employee of Home Mutual Insurance (now Secura) for over 33 years. Harriet was an active member of St. James Church and its Altar Society, the Portage County Department of Aging Board, was a Gray Lady Volunteer for Portage County and was a regular at the bridge table at the St. Point Senior Center. She was an avid reader and loved perusing the library shelves.

Harriet is survived by her brother Alex (Nancy) and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
