Henry Barnstorff Obituary

Hank was born in Cincinnati and grew up in Ohio, Wisconsin and Missouri, with a stop in Colorado to earn his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in organic chemistry. Hank received his first degree at Missouri Valley College as part of a World War II Navy training program. After two years in medical school at the University of Missouri in Columbia he did graduate work there. That's where he met his wife. They married in 1950. Hank started his career at Spencer Chemical Company in Joplin, Mo., but spent most of his work life - 30 years - at Monsanto in St. Louis as a recruiter and research scientist. He helped develop the manufacturing process for L-Dopa for Parkinson's disease and was awarded a few patents, including one for epoxide resins. Hank was named to Who's Who in American Men in Science and served as the chairman of the St. Louis chapter of the American Chemical Society. He enjoyed reading, communicating with family and friends by computer and amateur radio, spending time with Monsanto retirees and summers at the family cottage in Door County, Wis. Services: Hank and JoAnn's ashes will be buried following a private family memorial service this summer at Lakeview Cemetery in Jacksonport, Wis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to a charity of choice are appreciated. www.boppchapel.com
